Tyson is a terrible match up for Moorer but by the Botha fight Tyson was on the way down as far as training, drugs and focus so anything is possible which is why I assume that time comparison match up ..

Moorer's would certainly be vulnerable early against Tyson. I just think Tyson was a four round fighter for the most part in 96' and beyond. He was so explosive early but once he got to the mid rounds, he was beatable.

The time comparison too me is what makes Moorer a live dog. Prime Tyson would destroy Moorer. I just think Moorer was still very good in 96' and Tyson was a one trick pony at that point.

Moorer did not have the chin to smother or endure ... any Tyson through the Lewis fight would be favored over Moorer ...

I’m going to go out on a limb and say Tyson. Might have to work for it at this stage though

Tyson still had ATG punching power and world class speed to deliver it. I don't know if Moorer could take that power the way he bounced up and down the mat vs Holyfield (I think his punching power gets underrated but he wasn't an ATG puncher) and even though he was past prime, but Tua slept him good in the first round.

The Tyson who fought Holyfield was pretty damn good. He should piece Moorer apart in the first few rounds once he begins landing. Moorers habit of wanting to stand there and trade with stronger guys proved to be his downfall against Foreman and would be the same here against Tyson.

So did Alex Stewart, how did he do against Tyson?

Tyson. He's a horrible matchup for Moorer.

    Good point.

Moorer would fail at 2 and 4

Moorer did have a decent chin. He got floored two times against Cooper and came back to win. He might have however, got intimidated by Tyson and lost. But Tyson's own mental preparation might have been, below par.

Lol, Alex Stewart fought Tyson in 1990 before he went to prison for three years. This thread is about a fight in 96'. Comparing Moorer and Stewart makes no sense. Moorer was a two time heavyweight champ and a former light-heavyweight champ. Stewart was not the same caliber fighter.

Tyson very well could catch Moorer like he did Botha in 96'. I'm not disputing that. I'm simply not counting out Moorer who gave Holyfield a significant challenge in their 2nd fight before getting caught in round 7. Tyson was getting outboxed Botha in 96'. Then again, he changed everything with a single right hand after losing about every round. Even though he didn't throw combinations like he did pre prison, he was still a deadly puncher but he lost effectiveness by the mid rounds and never won a fight that went past six rounds post prison.

I liked Moorer, good technical ability & decent power, could he beat Tyson? In a word, no, why? Moorer was knocked unconscious by anyone who carried anything resembling knockout power & Tyson would have taken him early, easy & early.
