Its the same as always: Cassius Clays abilities get mixed up with Alis, and Tysons abilities gets mixed up with the Douglas corpse or even the unsharp Holyfield version.

If you really want to evaluate that duel, imagine Alis last fight was Folley and Tysons last fight was Michael Spinks or maybe Ruddock. Hide the rest. Forget about Frazier and Norton. Non of them did have any resume after that. The fighter Ali was is miles away from the 70s one. Analyse their abilities in that frame, Alis 29 fights and Tysons 35 exclusively. Otherwise you get a huge mess and noise.
Fighters change their style, their endurance, aressiveness, durability, their behavoir under pressure etc. etc. Try to pick their abilites in a short frame by analysing the fights in detail.

I see it coming down with a good analysis in how durable young Ali really was (and we might still not know it) and how many rounds they fought.

Tyson is horrible for ali, Ali was a out boxer while Tyson was a swarmer, swarmer are stylistic nightmares for out boxers, Larry Holmes was past his peak but not by too bad when he fought Tyson and we all know how that went, but the faster moving, faster combination puncher that was Ali from the Cleveland williams fight would obviously be a harder opponent. Still Tyson would be the worst possible opponent ali could fight.

Styles make fights and ali could beat opponents such as george foreman that Tyson would not do well against.

Holmes was well past peak vs. Spinks, then inactive for years, & even several years later was better.
And Ali was a bit better than Holmes.
Tyson was not a true swarmer. He fought in combos from mid range, not banging on the inside much, & was easily tied up.
if various poor man's Ali could trouble or beat him-Tillis, Douglas...And Ali was never KOed, at least do not assume Tyson stops him.

Though Ali might stop him in the later rounds.

Agree with all except about him not doing well against Foreman, but that discussion was done ad nauseum a few weeks ago

Tyson was a much meaner, larger, faster, stronger version of Floyd Patterson, who lasted 12 rounds with Ali.

Not an easy fight for Ali at all. If he makes one mistake, he’s toast. Tyson is a much better finisher than Cooper, Frazier, or anyone else he ever faced.

Then the prosecution says that journey man cruiserweight Cooper all but KOed Ali who was saved by the bell and Dundee. Nothing would have saved him if that was Tyson.

    From Wikipedia:

    -Round 5 intervalEdit
Angelo Dundee had escorted Ali to his corner at the end of Round 4. Dundee then waved to referee Tommy Little and showed Little Ali's right glove which had apparently split down a seam revealing horsehair stuffing which could have injured Cooper's eyes. Officials were requested to obtain a new pair of gloves for Ali, and the resulting confusion led to the interval between round 4 and round 5 to be extended by 20 seconds which gave Ali extra time to recover.[12][14]

    Round 5Edit
In the fifth round, Ali adopted aggressive tactics himself, throwing a flurry of quick punches at Cooper which resulted in photographers near the ring splashed with Cooper's blood. Two minutes and fifteen seconds into the fifth round, the fight was stopped and Ali declared the winner.[12][15]

Plus, even a prime Ali would've had his hands full with the best version of Buster Douglas, win or lose. A young Tyson likely would've had Henry Cooper out of there in the first round.
