You comparing an old Holyfield and Buster Douglas to a prime Foreman???

Holmes did enough to beat Spinks in their rematch in a lot of people's eyes.

Foreman did enough in his second career to be labelled an ATG.

Douglas had the opportunity to give Tyson a rematch, the fight made dollars and sense. Its Douglas fault the rematch didn't happen.

On an interview with Larry Merchant, with both men present, Tyson literally begged Douglas for a rematch, Douglas had no response.

They were again, meant to rematch in 99, but Douglas got his ass kicked by Savarese who Tyson then sparked in about 20 seconds.

Who did Foreman beat in his second career to be labelled as an ATG? Michael Moorer?

Spinks isn't the only guy who beat Holmes :deal.

If Frazier gets a free pass because Foreman held his number, then the same logic can apply to Tyson vs Holyfield. What's good for one, is good for the other.

That's the thing, if Douglas did rematch Tyson in 91 and turned up in shape he beats Tyson and knocks him out again IMO. Seriously makes me laugh when I hear folk say Tyson would destroy Douglas. Tyson was completely dominated from start to finish, barring the knockdown he won every round.

I don't know about the 1999 proposal for a Tyson vs Savarese rematch.. And frankly I don't think the outcome would have meant anything given that they were both beyond shot by that point..But there was a good reason why it didn't happen in the early 90's. Evander Holyfield became Douglas's mandatory after he beat Tyson. Holyfield was ranked #1 by the WBA, WBC, IBF and every major magazine and ranking body.. Its not considered a "duck" when you opt to face your mandatory before giving your last victim a rematch.. And Las Vegas entrepreneur Steve Wynn took over the promotion of that fight and guaranteed Douglas 25 million dollars to fight Holyfield - something Buster wouldn't have gotten had he rematched Tyson with Don King calling the shots and pinching the profits.. After that loss, Douglas retired and Tyson went to prison.. So from a ranking, promotional, financial and practical standpoint a rematch with Tyson in 1990-91 made little sense.

Yeah he beat Moorer after a decade away from the sport, he also put in a good performance against a prime Holyfield, a hell of a better showing than Tyson did.

Oh so you are knocking Holmes for not redeeming himself against Tyson? You do know at the same age Tyson was getting KTFO by Danny Williams and quitting against Kevin McBride...

Joe Louis was " completely dominated from start to finish" by Schmeling in their first meeting.. Look what happened in the rematch. I'm not sure that I'd pick Tyson to win had they fought again in say 1991 and assuming Douglas was in shape, but that's only because I don't think he was ever the same after his original team had completely dispersed and problems began occurring in his personal life.. I do however feel that the Tyson who was now being trained by Rich Giachetti post Douglas and pre prison was better than the team comprised of Aaron Snowel and Jay Bright who tried to control Tyson's swelling with a condom filled with water in the Douglas bout..

It's fair to say Schmeling was considered past it when he was defeated by Louis in their rematch. Louis was also noted for doing better in rematches, the Godoy, Conn and Walcott fights show this.

Who knows about Giachetti, he was also hired to train Tyson for the Holyfield rematch yet the fight was panning out just like the first. The best cornermen in the world couldn't have saved Tyson in Tokyo, he was literally destroyed.

Be that as it may, we never got to see Tyson fight Douglas again. And if you're going to credit other fighters for avenging losses then at least acknowledge that they got rematches. Tyson didn't despite wanting one.

I would welcome a competition with a clueless punk like you anytime. Be it Boxing trivia, or (preferably) a boxing match.

You showed him. I bet he'll be too scared to type a response when he knows that if he ever gets chatting to a stranger and they get into conversation during which he mentions that he posts on this board under the name Smokin' Bert. he'll get a good pasting.

Don't let Wass get to you. Just put him on ignore like I have. Based on his smugness, I would venture to say he is an unatheletic worm in real life.

He brags about his 'vast knowledge' but 90 percent of his posts are based on his anti-Tyson emotions. He barely posts in non-Tyson threads.
