I remember Jerry Quarry having his way with a prime undefeated Lyle in MSG, he rocked Ron and that took the steam out of Lyle. Tyson was not as flawed as Foreman and Big George was still a protected fighter. Tyson would go after Lyle and take him out before the 5th

Like when he was forced to maul a giant in Smith?

Like when he took 8 rounds of steady pounding from a giant in Lewis, knowing full well he was shot but hanging in there for hopes of a lucky punch?

Like when he walked through Ruddock's bombs over 2 fights?

Like when he tried everything in his power to rise from Douglas' bombs?

He was a midget fighting in a giant's division (Holyfield's words, not mine) yet armchair experts deride his heart? I seriously don't know where people get this sh*t from.

The guy was semi -comatose ,on his hands and knees still trying to put his gumshield in. All these prats who have never ducked through the ropes sure make you smile talking about courage.:patsch

Ask yourself one question. "How many people on this thread picked Lyle to win" ?

Answer: only one, which was you.

Lyle would rock Tyson and stun him, but I agree that Tyson's combos and counter punching ability would be too much for Lyle. Tyson TKO within 6. Lyle was a straight up beast though. Lyle vs 96 Tyson more interesting fight. Tyson on the comeback trail after Douglass loss starches Lyle as well imo.

I love the people picking Lyle who seem to think he was something amazing. I guess those same guys forgot about him struggling with an old Bonavena, or a way past it shot ex LHW who wasnt a big puncher in Peralta, or getting his ears boxed off by a faded Quarry, or getting dropped hard and being saved by the bell by the most overrated one trick pony in history Shavers, or basically going 50/50 with the limited Boone Kirkman to only pull it out on a cut. Those were all in Lyle's fighting prime. The point is that Tyson was special and Lyle wasnt. He was very good but what great fighter did he ever beat that makes you think he could beat Tyson? Im picking Tyson by KO but he could win a decision as well. I dont see Lyle having anything to handle him either in a shootout or a boxing match. You can compare him to Foreman because they fought and suppose Foreman would beat Tyson (which I dont agree with) but Lyle fought nothing like Foreman. I think Lyle would have ten kinds of hell with Tyson's style.

great post !!! It may take years for Tyson to be fully appreciated.
His head movement, his quick feet and his power, he was awesome.
He came along during an era of lazy looking heavyweight and picked the sport up and got people noticing boxing again.
He was an impressive sight and looked the part.
Bit of dog???? Bull**** usually written by people who've never donned gloves
