Nonsense. Tyson was great at slipping a jab and countering it.

February 1990 in Tokyo irrefutably says to the contrary, and Tyson was merely 23. Liston's jab was far superior to anything James Douglas ever managed.

Of course that it is. Anyway it is s much bigger proof of courage than being a quitter

The liston fans are poor dreamers. All his argument is based on fantasy. " prime liston would beat anyone, prime liston could blablabla" tyson supports his legacy and h2h place with facts.

again, proof of courage in defeat isn't a straightup winning quality, by definition.

you can easily see it as a losing quality in the form of a mental health issue of accepting self hurt by carrying on fruitlessly.

Yep, and one of those facts is he was beaten up, outclassed, humiliated and KO'd aged 23 by a 42 - 1 underdog. Said underdog was NEVER in Sonny Liston's league.

That would be par for the course as far as you are concerned. Anything more difficult than " dinner " as opposed to diner or " lounge " as opposed to longue or even " an ape " as opposed to a ape, should leave an idiot like you shaking its head.

Tyson KO 6 Liston. Liston's reach and powerful jab will keep Tyson honest until Tyson's class shows up. Similar to the Tyson-Thomas bout.

I see this fight playing out similarly to Tyson's fight with Bruno. (First one.)

Bruno said afterwards that Tyson was simply too fast coming in, and that he was overwhelmed and could not get off. Tyson had the initiative against Bruno and I think a similar scenario playes out here.

Liston just does not have the handspeed or movement to live with Tyson. He's just too slow, not particularly big (a bit on the small side for a modern heavy actually) not mobile enough and well...Tyson for my money will beat him repeatedly to the punch.

I can see Liston having a bit of success maybe but it would be fleeting. I think Tyson is too fast, too aggressive, too overwhelming for Liston, who preyed on fighters in a lower weight class for the most part.

A methodical, one-sided breakdown of Liston ensues...

And ironically, Spinks was about the same size as Liston when he fought Tyson.
In the modern age, the 'monstrous' Liston would be outsized by a good number of heavyweights.

    Reasons:

    Nope Liston was bigger.

Wrong again. Johnny Tocco who's seen both of them, along with Foreman, Ruddock, and others, said nobody hit the bag like Liston did.

Liston never got iced by the likes of Buster Douglas, Danny Williams, and Kevin Mcbride. He also withstood shots from someone who hit just as hard, if not harder than himself.

Well then why are we debating it? Tyson abandoned his defense after one or two rounds. Liston maintained his throughout entire fights.

Liston had his jaw broken and fought through it for four rounds and nearly came back to win. He had his nose broken by Cleveland Williams, a puncher on his level or higher, and came back to win. Nino Valdez shut his eye, Liston didn't quit, and little Mikey quit on his stool in the 6th against Mcbride in a fight that he was WINNING. That's the difference between an all time great and a bltch.

Thomas, Douglas, bonecrusher, need I go on?

Tyson never beat anyone with HALF the punching power of Liston. I think Liston was the worst stylistic match up for Tyson.

Patterson was faster than Tyson, and Liston didn't have a problem with that. Liston in his prime, had very underrated hand speed. I honestly don't believe you've watched any of Liston's fights other than the Ali bouts.

 Douglas, a poor man's, no a HOMELESS MAN'S Liston beat a prime Tyson. Difference is, Tyson isn't lasting as long as he did against Douglas, and isn't dropping Liston.
