Foxy, I told you to stop calling me "APE" and "BOY" already dude :patsch

Plus no more banana references either. Yes maybe you somehow don't mean them as racial mocking's but if you are aware that I am finding it specifically insulting why wouldn't you go back to many of the other insulting words that I don't object to? You are aware that historically those terms have been attached to specific races of human beings as put downs correct?

Is it because you are aware those terms upset me more than most of your other clueless terms?

Is that why you keep slipping them in as you do Foxy???????

And? Cleveland Williams was bigger than Tyson, hit harder, and had comparable hand speed.

Lol so i did talk about facts and real proofs and all you got is "nop listón is bigger because i say it"
    Or "someone said..."
Thomas? Lol the same who got destroyed by tyson? Smith? All he did was clinching all the fight to survive and he lost... The defeat of tyson against douglas has nothing to do with his jab. Tyson took jabs, uppers hooks and everything that night. He looked trash. But we are talking about a 1988 tyson

Liston had the advantages in height, biceps, reach (by far), chest, waist, etc.
All of these fighters evidently troubled Tyson with their jabs.
    Yes it CLEARLY did.
Nope. Where does it say that? Unless someone specifically says 1988 Tyson, this thread is Mike Tyson vs Sonny Liston prime for prime.

Can you point me to a video of Williams where he demonstrates comparable hand speed to Tyson?

And who were the five best fighters that Williams actually KO'd?

Just because Tyson knocked out better fighters than Williams that doesn't mean he hit harder at all. What a silly comment.

Most accounts say Williams hit harder than Liston, and ALL accounts say Liston hit harder than Tyson.

A bit unfair on Buster i think. Buster was in awesome shape in Tokyo. I Agree Liston would have KO'D Tyson as well.

... anyway, some of the comebacks for either man are quite funny.

    My $.02?

Size- They were both thick guys similar in size. Sure, Liston was a little taller and had a longer reach though. They were similar in weight but Tyson was usually heavier, he also had that 20" neck. No real advantage either way, except for Liston's reach.

    Power- They both punched hard.

Liston knocked out Patterson KO1 x2, Folley KO3, Williams KO3 and KO2, and others. He also beat Machen W12.

Tyson knocked out Ribalta KO10, Berbick KO2, Thomas KO6, Biggs KO7, Holmes KO4, Tubbs KO2, Spinks KO1, Bruno KO5 and KO3, Williams KO1, Ruddock KO7 (and W12), Seldon KO1, and others. His KOs over Botha, Savarese, and Etienne were quick and brutal. His win over Nielsen (KO6) was a one-sided beatdown. He beat the shlt out of Golota and was on his way to a KO win over Norris... both fights are No-Contests in the history books. 6 of these KOs were 5th round or later (one of them was 10th round) he won a clear 12 round decision over Ruddock.

Niño Valdes was washed up when he fought Liston, quit bringing his name up when Liston is discussed.

Broken jaw? Sure, he went the distance but his jaw was busted by a 180 Lb. guy named Marty Marshall. Liston stopped Marshall in a rematch but Marshall also went the distance with Liston in one of their fights as well.

Liston has the reach and he has the jab. They are similar in size and they both have power. Tyson is quicker.

And yet Williams lost to damn near every decent guy he fought. Must have been just unlucky.

Folley and Machen were talented fighters but they were both barely 6' and 200 Lbs. Machen was a bit more durable than Folley but he was stopped in the 1st round by Johansson... that didn't stop him from going the 12 round distance with Liston and given him a pretty tough fight.

Patterson was a great fighter but he was similar in size to Folley and Machen. Patterson punched harder than those guys and was about as durable as Folley. Machen was probably the physically strongest of the 3. Patterson was down 20 times in his career (more than any other HW Champ), almost half of those knockdowns were in 5 fights (Johansson x3 and Liston x2).
