Leaving out the champions, how does Tyson do against these top heavyweight contenders.
    Tyson vs:

    Quarry
    Bonavena
    Chuvalo
    Bugner
    Ellis
    Young
    Mathis
    Wepner
    Cobb
    M Foster
    Coetzee
    Tate
    Weaver

None of these guys can last 12 rounds with him.

Guys like Lyle and Shavers had a lot of power, especially Shavers, but the later lacks the durability to absorb a Tyson combination and Lyle does not have the speed to cope with a rampaging Tyson.

Quarry is a terrific coutner puncher but Tyson is bigger, stronger, faster and harder hitting. Quarry would be completely outgunned.

Bonavena is an awkward guy whose power and toughness could make him last 6-7 rounds but the much speedier Tyson stops him.

Tyson used to spar with Young. Young cannot keep a rampaging Tyson away from him. Tyson tko 6

The rest of them lose early. Coetzee could land a few dynamite punches but does not have the speed to him.

I'd love to see Tyson vs. Lyle while it lasted.

He would make quick work of many of them. I could see Quarry giving him some problems. I would favor him over all of them, however if he fought them all I doubt he'd run the gauntlet

I think he beats all of those. Jimmy Young may be the only candidate to seriously trouble him

Mike Tyson would beat all of them and I think this thread shows that the 70s is an overrated era

Excluded from the list are Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton and Holmes. Yeah, terrible decade. Four top 10 heavyweights with at least two of them commonly found in top 5's.

I think Tyson also beats Frazier, Norton, Ali, and maybe Holmes, not foreman though

Tyson wouldn't beat Ali. Totally agree per Foreman tho and agree he beats the rest.

I think early 70's Ali would defuse him early with an assortment of tactics including sizzling right hand leads, manhandling him in clinches, goading, confidence and plenty of tying up and manipulating. In short somewhat similar tactics to the Foreman fight even tho they are vastly different opponents. Ali would take over later.

I think it’ll be more more a stylistic problem for Ali than anything. A pressure fighter with very quick hands, feet, head movement, and ko power in both hands. I think prime Ali might be able to pull off what you stated but a 70s Ali just wasn’t the same fighter and he gets stopped imo
