Mike Tyson - 'The Baddest Man on the Planet' with the nickname 'Iron' - was a nightmare in the heavyweight division in the 80s. He was a devastating knockout artist who put fear in the hearts of many of his opponents (most notably Michael Spinks). As bad as he was, he didn't face many big punchers. Despite the fact that all but 1 of his losses were by KO - Tyson actually had a very good chin, as all his KO losses were from a sustained beating & not one punch. His opponents had to throw the proverbial kitchen sink at him to keep him down.

    How would Tyson fare against:

    Dempsey
    Baer
    Louis
    Marciano
    Liston
    Frazier
    Foreman
    Shavers
    Lyle
    Cooney
    Bowe
    Morrison
    Mercer
    McCall
    Tua
    Ike
    Briggs
    W Klit
    V Klit
    Sanders
    Povetkin
    Joshua
    Wilder

vs Dempsey- Tyson is bigger, stronger, just as fast, and hits harder. Tyson tko 3.

vs Baer- Baer will hurt him a few times with his right like Ruddock did, but Tyson is too fast and dynamic. Tyson tko 6.

vs Louis- 50-50 IMO. If a complacent Louis shows up like he did vs guys like Galento, Tyson would overwhelm him. However, if a properly motivated Louis shows up, Louis's straighter punches would land first, and after Louis would survive the first 7 rounds, he would beat down a slowing Tyson. Louis tko 10 but Tyson has a real chance.

    vs
Marciano- Tyson has faster hands, hits just as hard, faced bigger punchers so has a more proven chin. Rocky gets outgunned here. Tyson tko 2.

Liston- Tyson's speed would cause Liston some trouble early but Liston would intimidate him. Once Liston's jab starts working, he would start wearing Tyson down. Tyson moving towards Liston would only amplify Liston's power. Liston tko 10

    vs
Frazier- Tyson has faster hands, hits just as hard, faced bigger punchers so has a more proven chin. Tyson stops him early like Marciano. Tyson tko 2.

vs Foreman- Foreman is too powerful and agressive. Tyson walks into his big uppercuts. Foreman tko 4

It is not true that Tyson if not face many big punchers.
Lewis was one. Ruddock, Bonecrusher & Bruno he fought, two of them twice each. They each hit HARDER than him for single punshes.
Tyson absolutely hit real sluggers-much more so than say fellow swarmers Marciano & Frazier-in terms of botb size & absolute power.

Dempsey: Tyson KO round 6 in a very exciting back and forth war that shortens both their careers. Both men covered in knots and blood and exchange knockdowns.

Baer: Tyson would need to be patient, use his defense, and attack the body to eventually stop the rugged Baer in the 9th.

Lous: Louis TKO round 10. His sharp jab, parrying, and equally devastating combos eventually break Tyson down.

Marciano: Tyson TKO round 4. Tyson just has too many advantages in speed, defense, accuracy, etc.

Liston: Liston Unanimous decision. I think Liston pulls a Douglas with his devastating jab and also uses some of Holyfield's mauling tactics.

Frazier: another very brutal war. I actually think Frazier doesn't have a "slow start" since both men run right into each other immediately. Frazier would really test Tyson's stamina with his infighting and body work. I think Tyson eventually pulls off a stoppage in the 8th due to his power in both hands and speed, but it would be a gruelling fight that could go either way if Tyson can't end things by that point and Frazier's stamina comes into play.

Foreman: prime Foreman wins more often than not. Just a real ugly clash of styles as Tyson gets redirected, grappled, mauled, out brawled. Foreman KO round 5.

Old Foreman likely loses a lopsided decision but not before busting Tyson up with his jab and clubbing blows. Lacks the reflexes and aggression of his younger self.

Shavers: Tyson KO round 2. Shavers only has a 20% chance off pulling off something crazy with his power. Tyson is just too well rounded.

Lyle: Tyson KO round 7. Probably looks like the Ruddock and Berbick fights.

Cooney: oh man Cooney's ribs would look like pencil shavings if they let this go on too long. Tyson's vicious body assault and uppercuts end things within 3.

Bowe: prime Bowe wins this late round TKO in the 9th-11th round. He would be severely ****ed up from all the damage however. Bowe's inside skills, insane durability, and big man tactics prove to be an insurmountable wall for iron Mike. Past prime Bowe takes a sustained beating and is himself stopped late.

Morrison: very entertaining scrap. I think Tyson gets nailed hard at some point. Both men hit like trucks and both loved the left hook so at some point there is going to be a count. Tyson should obviously be favored but Tommy showed some serious guts in the Ruddock fight so anything could happen. Prime Tyson should win by KO within 3 in a brief but brutal back and forth battle.

Mercer: tough one. Speed vs durability. Mercer had an underrated jab and could bang pretty hard himself. I think the question would be if Tyson can pace himself and not blow his load early. If He does, Mercer drags him into deep waters and finishes him. Tyson should win by a close decision 70% of the time.

McCall: they sparred many times, there is nothing McCall could do to surprise him. Tyson unanimous decision.

Tua: prime Tua could actually pull this off. He wasn't as fast as Tyson but was busier than him from start to finish and didn't have stamina issues like many punchers. The question would be if The gets nailed hard too many times, does he mentally check out and hide in his shell? I think Both men would be wary of each other as neither were the most mentally tough and would respect each other's power. I think Tyson at his peak wins this due to better hand speed and technique but i can't make up my mind for sure.

Ike: overrated and we didn't see enough of Ike to favor him. Tyson Unanimous decision.

Briggs: Tyson TKO round 6 after Briggs gasses.

W Klit: depends on the ref. If Wladmir is allowed to tie up and lean constantly he could earn a very lame and ugly victory. If he is penalized for excessive clinching, he likely panics; ending up on the wrong end of a bad exchange after opening up. Tyson by late round KO or unanimous decision if Wladmir fights to survive.

V Klit: Tyson cant put a dent in him but is landing the cleaner shots and impressive combos. However Vitali is controlling the range and rarely takes a head shot due to his height and swaying tactics. Vitali dominates the later rounds with his volume and clean punching. Vitali by split decision.

Saunders: do you mean corrie Sanders...?

Povetkin: Tyson KO in 8 after a surprisingly tactical and interesting battle.

Joshua: we need to see more of Joshua honestly, but as of now Tyson would stop him within 9.

    Wilder: Tyson KO within 4.

I agree that Liston and Foreman might beat him.
But Frazier, not in a million years.

While I I favour Tyson to win, it wouldn't be a stretch to say Frazier would win also.

Louis and Foreman are definitely two that I’d favor over him. The vast majority of the others I would either favor Tyson or make 50/50 odds.

I am not even a Tyson fan, and I think very few ever would beat him at his best. Not sure there is anyone where I think Tyson has no shot or is totally overmatched. He will not get blown away, or have no shot against them. I would pick a few to beat him...but not with a great deal of confidence and certainly a little bit of doubt.

    but I would pick
    Holyfield
    Louis
    Ali
Frazier (I am in the minority)
    Holmes
    Foreman
    Liston

but I wouldn’t bet on the outcome of any of these fights either.
