Yes - a great boxer, but yes overrated - if a bigger in shape opponent could keep him off defensively for the first few rounds, he would be beaten. Lewis and Klitschkos are better.
those who say Tyson is the greatest heavyweight ever, yeah, probably overrated but i won't argue with them
"How good was Mike Tyson? From 1986-1990 he was one of the most feared heavyweight champions ever. His unique melding of fantastic hand speed and shocking punching power made him a threat to any opponent he faced. Tysons baleful stare and stunning power struck terror into the hearts of his opponents. Hank Kaplan, speaking of the young Tyson, wrote in Boxing Digest, He has the best defense seen in the heavyweight division in many years. Tyson had excellent fundamentals, he showed good balance, exceptional head movement, kept his hands high, ducked and bent at the waist to remain in punching position and he slipped, blocked and countered punches very well. Tony Tucker and Bonecrusher Smith each managed to land only one significant punch in their entire fights against Tyson. Does Tyson deserve to be considered an all time great? Based on his physical attributes, speed, boxing skill and punching power the answer is yes. Like McGovern and Benitez he peaked at a young age and then faded quickly. Unfortunately he will be remembered more for his late career failures, when his skills and desire had long vanished, than for his early success. Mike Tyson was good enough at his youthful peak to be considered among the best heavyweights in history."
Being overrated is overrated in itself. People think you automatically suck if you are overrated. Tyson was a GREAT fighter but he was overrated, vastly.
Vitali Klitschko is the deal tough mo-fo never never been even touched the floor dream team - foreman klitschkos lewis holmes
Mike was not overrated in his prime. What was overrated was how he fought after he lost to Douglas. He never was the same defensive fighter who could slip punches and get in punching range like in his prime. So he was overrated later. But in his prime he was one of the greatest fighters ever. Top 5 Heavyweight ever.
Overrated as hell. Never beat anyone in his "prime". I love the "prime" label. Shortest prime in the history of sports. His nuthuggers say he was out of prime by the age of 22.
No... Tyson was the man. When he stopped giving a **** about the sport is when he was beaten. Mike at his peak would have beaten anyone including Glass Klitschko.
