Just re-watched part of that bout and the camera switched to Mike at ringside and his face was swollen and fat, you could see his eating habits had changed and he ha let himself go, what other times did he look in this condition?

On the first Hangover he looked in bad shape. I didn’t see the sequel(s?)
He may have been in better shape for those. I don’t know.

Not surprising, as this was late 1988 and more or less in the middle of Tyson's longest-ever spell of inactivity up until that point (eight months between beating Spinks and Bruno). The Bruno fight didn't happen until February 1989 but had originally been scheduled for September the previous year, and then again just before Christmas, I believe. However it was postponed at least twice (possibly even more), first because Tyson was jettisoning Bill Cayton through the courts and secondly because of injury. Before that point, Tyson had been defending once every three, sometimes even every two months, now all of a sudden he had an eight month layoff which was out of sync with the rest of his busy career to that point. Little wonder he was piling on the pounds.

In fact, in the press conference after the Bruno fight he mentions that he entered his training camp at around 260 lb.
