Holmes was 38...Justice served though because a Prime Holmes destroyed a 38 Year old gone Ali already showing signs of Parkinsons...what goes around come around I say.!!!

He did actually. One thing about Iron Mike Tyson is that the man knows his boxing. Recently when he won the WBSS computer simulation tournament beating Ali and AJ saying he believes Tyson would have beaten Ali, Tyson came out and was emphatic that he knows Ali would have beaten him. Hell Winky Wright knocks out Sugar Ray Leonard in the Middleweight computer simulation and as good as Winky was I am sure he knows Sugar Ray Leonard would have taxed his arse.

Yes holmes was not at his very best but he was closer to prime than many would like to believe.

I dont believe he was drinking not training one bit, this is a guy who continued to train till he was 60 years old and does so even today.

I believe mike would have beaten prime Larry aswell.

Mike won and did so farily early Larry tried all his tricks to tire and frustrate Tyson and after 3 rounds wated to break the tide in his favor...

What happened was that once he did that he was kod, and it was apperent that mike was much better fighter than any that larry had faced before certainly best finisher.

If you compere 90's Larry Holmes to one that beat Tyson you can see that Larry was much closer to prime shape in 1988.

This win ranks just as it does for aj and fury when wlad was still good but not as good as he was 3 years earlier.

But unlike those two Tyson clearly beat holmes and left no doubt and IMO prime for prime Tyson would have won aswell.

Tyson is confident and true all time great he never says that he would win any fight unless you were his current rival.

I can find you interview where he sits together with Ali and Ali says that Mike would ko him.

I can find interview where Tyson says that at his prime he wanted to be so good that any past champions would be glad that they have retired...

At the end of the day it means nothing.

Tysons style, made by Cus Damato, was created to beat that of Alis, Holmes, carl williams, tyrell biggs.

So that is why i would favor Tyson.

Same as i would favor Foreman over Tyson altought Tyson could take huge punishment and maybe win slugfest, Cus cartainly advised mike to stay away from Foreman, Liston type, i guess closest tyson beat was Ruddock

Holy went UD with old Holmes. This proves Prime Tyson was unstoppable for Holy but not absolutely.

Actually the Holmes form going into the bout was very poor. As mentioned, he'd lost his 2 previous fights. It should be 3==lots of people thought he lost the Williams bout.

even if you do think Holmes nudged it, there sure weren't too many guys Carl could go the distance with. No reason for him to be there at the end of 15 rounds with that chin and punch resistance of his.

I think we can agree to disagree! I am merely pointing out that Mike Tyson agrees with me that both Holmes and Alivat their best would beat him at his best.

Holmes sure did OK after that fight, for a shot fighter.

I have never understand this "revenge" story.

Ali challenged Holmes. Was Holmes supposed to let Ali win? Was Holmes supposed to make the fight appear closer and risk losing a decision?

It was Ali's fault he chose to fight Holmes

If that was Tyson who had lost there it would have been considered a defining fight for Holmes.

I happen to believe it is an underrated win for Tyson. Only because Holmes was so damned good. Yes he was rusty, he wanted a tune up and King upped the ante to have him forego the tune up -King knew how good Larry was. Holmes was rusty and clearly past prime, still no one put Holmes away but Tyson. Holmes would still have some good wins to come too, while even older and more past prime such as Mercer. He also did give Holyfield good fight.
Holmes did beat Spinks in rematch all but offically.

Yeah, that's a bunch of BS. He wasn't anywhere near shot. A shot fighter loses to any decent young fighter. Holmes beat really good fighters after that, like Mercer.

But the lay off does have to be taken into consideration.
