Is it a general consensus that Mike Tyson's chin is weak? In different boxing websites I've been too, it seems like everybody passes off his chin as being incredibly weak. However, I always thought he had a decent chin, judging from the punishment he took from the Lewis, Holyfield, Douglas fights. Is it just me who think he has a good chin, or do all of you guys think so too?

The consensus here is that it was a superior chin, and I think this is corect.

You dont go toe to toe with Ruddock, Bruno or Smith and not have a good chin.

Tyson's chin was excellent. But even excellent chins will eventually fail, if you continue to stand in front of 230+lbs men and basically let them hit you square on that chin, without defending yourself. Which Tyson rather alarmingly choose to do from the 90s onwards.

Tyson had a very good chin, however I have seen him rocked by single hard shot in Bruno. With Tyson, I think his heart and will when he faced adversity were bigger issues than his chin. Mike also tended to swell up in his toughest fights.

Judging his ability to take a single hard shot, I would say Tyson's chin is a 9 out of 10.

unable to get out of the way of shots in his later career and unable to box and move in the later rounds usually meant he would be taking the full bloodied shots. it was pressure that burst the pipes in a sense.

Far superior to Frazier's, who a few on here actually believe had a superior chin to Tyson. Tyson has the greatest chin among the great 4 HW swarmers.

Tyson has one of the best chin's in HW history. He moves forward, and didn't shell up and stop moving aggressively like Tua did. Anybody can avoid being KOed if they fight like that. He's more aggressive than Chuvalo, and I've seen him take cleaner shots and shots he didn't see. Not to say his chin is better than Chuvalo's, though.

very good chin, not great though. He got knocked out too many times to be considered great.

Getting rocked by a flush Bruno bomb on the chin means nothing, in the '89 Power-Punching tournament, Bruno came first, ahead of Old Foreman, Razor Ruddock & Tyson. Bruno also rocked a young & fit Lewis significantly worse than Vitali hurt a fat, 38 year old incarnation.

Vitali was rocked multiple times in the intial two rounds & badly hurt by a left hook in the opening round from a fat golfer called Corrie Sanders, which sent him staggering about on wobbly legs & crumbling to the canvas. Tyson would have walked through that same punch grinning as he bore in for a quick kill.

As for heart, Tyson demonstrated the heart of a warrior against Douglas, Ruddock (twice), Holyfield ('96) & Lewis. Against Danny Williams he could of quit in his corner after his knee tendon snapped in the second round, but he chose to continue despite being in agony, gassed, horribly shot & being unable to get any leverage in his punches. Then in the 4th he came forward, completely gassed & took about 20 unanswered power punches on the chin, before his exhaustion & knee totally gave way.

Tyson had no enswell against Douglas, just a useless latex glove full of water, so his swelling from the brutal & sustained beating was able to reach a terrible state. Observe Tyson absorbing bombs for 12 rounds in the Ruddock rematch, yet his face was free of swelling at the end & his peforated eardrum illustrates the degree of punishment he was taking to the head.

Agreed...It wouldn't be a stretch to say its better than Chuvalo's to be honest.

Its safe to say that Mike Tyson has never been let down by his chin and has shown the ability to take clean punches from top tier punchers.

For those who voted otherwise I'd like to hear your argument

Three people voted "yes, it's terrible". There are a lot of matters of valid opinion on this board where you can argue extremes. This is not one of those matters of opinion. If you weren't kidding and legitimately think Tyson's chin was any kind of "terrible" you are simply ignorant. That crosses over from the land of opinion to ******** land. That is not a valid opinion. You can argue about how good Tyson's chin was but you simply have no case to argue that it was anything less than good.
