His name was Jimmy KirkPatrick, and apparently he left when Mike was very young. I don't know if all Mike's siblings were from the same set of parents though. He had an older brother named Rodney and sister named Denise who died around the time of the Carl Williams fight in '89. Not sure if he had other siblings or not.
i think his sister died of aids? is that right? i just wonder if his dad had any more kids...would have to be a way to track the guy down (he is likely dead now...but track what happened to him.)
http://articles.latimes.com/1992-11-01/news/mn-1704_1_lorna-tyson well i decided to do some online research myself so i figured out his name was indeed jimmy kirkpatrick, and he died in new york in october of 1992. so i did a yahoo search of JAMES kirkpatrick (jimmy didnt get me anything) and new york october 1992 death...found this http://www.faqs.org/people-search/kirkpatrick-born-in-1929/ he died at 63 in 92..hence the 29 sounds right....but i couldnt find any james or jimmies in that listing...kept looking... tried google...all kinds of different articles..i found this..that said he sometimes went by michael kirkpatrick http://m.espn.go.com/wireless/story?storyId=8148480&wjb but who knows....
Wasn't he a pimp? Apparently he had dozens of children with loads of other women. That's just something I read here. I wish I had time to check those links to confirm or deny this. I do know that one of Mike's half-brother's, Clifford Couser was (is still maybe?) a heavyweight journeyman. Couser bore a crazy resemblance to Mike and marketed himself off their relationship by wearing black trunks and shoes without socks just like Mike. For those who don't know Cliff managed the occasional decent win, including fairly impressive stoppages over Jorge Luis Gonzalez and Monte Barrett, but he basically never trained and if a fight went past two rounds and he didn't knock his man out he would gas and lose. And most of the other times he would just get knocked stiff early anyway against top guys like Moorer, Thompson, and Arreola. The guy was a southpaw and he was clearly a natural athlete but was rumored to have drug problems and as mentioned he wasn't properly trained or guided. Also, if I didn't know otherwise I would have sworn Julian Letterlough was related to Tyson. The resemblance there was nuts.
Clifford Couser mother said his dad was kirkpatrick....but had no proof...and no one really knows for sure....i guess if mike and him did a blood test. but he did have many of the same attributes of tyson..but really didnt train much like you said, and never had a good steady trainer...had he had someone to show him the elusive peak a boo style..who knows. but yes from what i can gather he was a pimp...and i can find nothing online about him other then the tyson stuff in articles...its something because i have realitives who died 50 years ago and were in no way world shakers or shapers and yet you can find birth and death records online....i guess its hard finding long term love as a pimp....
I recant everything about Couser being Tyson's half-brother. Apparently Couser routinely lied to the media about being Mike's brother to drum up interest. But he was born in Missouri, which is a long way from Brooklyn even for a womanizer as prolific as Kirkpatrick. If I was Tyson I'd be pretty irritated about some guy lying about being my half brother. Interestingly though Couser and Tyson share two opponents: Quick Tillis (Couser stopped him in six) and Cliff Etienne (Couser was stopped in three).
Johnstown have you ever watched Julien Letterlough in action? One of my favorite chill or be chilled bombers ever. His wars with Richard Hall and Julio Gonzalez are both incredible. Sadly he was murdered in 2004.
Yes his father was a pimp who supposedly fathered many children with different women. Tyson's mother was a drug user and street person herself. Tyson basically raised himself on the streets and had a record a mile long by the time he was 13. Incredible life really, Tyson never brushed his teeth or took showers growing up and he was known as dirty Mike on the streets. Makes you wonder how many potential incredible atheletes roam the streets and never get the chance that Tyson got. I believe Tyson had another sister who died in the mid 90's. You saw her in some of Tyson's ring walks in his post prison career.
There is a photo of Tyson's father on the net and an interview I saw it years ago but can't find it now. I remember him sitting on bleaches in a small sports ground.
