I understand. But there is such a thing as cortisol. A stress hormone that can eat away muscle tissue. As well as catabolism with your body being worked that much. Some guys have to eat all day to keep on their size, even with half as much training as this article says Tyson did. Some guys eat 4 to 6 (I've even seen upwards of 9) meals a day. I just can't believe how he kept all that size with only 3 meals a day and that inhuman amount of training. I could believe his diet. But, as already stated, i doubt he did as much training as this article claims. I just don't see that being true.

I heard that Mike Tyson's favorite food when training was Cap'n Crunch. You'd be surprised on how efficient the body functions on what it's given.

Anyway, I think he probably did all of that stuff but I'm sure each item in the list is contorted, and mangled in some way or another. After a while the story changes completely. It sure would be interesting to know his training routine though.

    According to Kevin Rooney....

    First few weeks:

    Run 1-2 miles at 4am

    Start gym work at 2pm or 4pm depending on how he felt;

    Work the Willie for 10-15min

Work the heavy bag for 20-30min, Work the punch pads for 20-30min
-Working on specific combinations drilled over and over, using numbers system, focusing on moving the head after the last punch thrown

    Then calisthenics, including neck braces.

    Next 5-6 weeks:

    Run 2-3 miles at 4am

    Work the Willie for 10-15min

Sparring...work up to 15-16 rounds full-contact w/ no headgear (with fighters like Jesse Ferguson, Oliver McCall, Mike Williams and Glenn McCrory)

    Work slip bag for 10-15min

Work the speed bag for 10-15min

    Then calisthenics.

As far as weights, there was a barbell and some plates at Catskill and instructions on a little wall poster how to do each exericse. Tyson did that sometimes, but wasn't part of the routine.

it takes at least 2 1/2 hours to do 2000 sit ups, you are right about it not being possible.

i think he started lifting for the spinks fight and did not touch weights before then if i am not mistaken.

i think this is probably a collection of things he did at different points in his career and not what he did 6 days a week at the start of his career. i am pretty sure running a triathlon is less work than that routine.

it could also be something called dual factor training, which was a common way for soviet athletes to train back then, it involves different phases where you overtrain on purpose for a short period and then allow your body to recover afterwards in order to gradually increase your work capacity.

like other people have said unless it comes straight from tyson or rooneys mouth in a video interview i don't beleive it.

To the people saying that much training is impossible....

The schedule isn't that much. The guy's a World class Athlete!

The things nontrained people might look at as impossible are not when you have had years of training.

He didn't just decide one day he was going to do 2000 sit ups a day (plus everything else he did)! From the age of 14 (or whenever he started) he would have built up to that level.

How does 2000 sit ups take 2hrs 30mins? I know Athletes that do 30min stomach exercise work outs and they probably include a rep per second so that's almost 2000 reps.

Id take certain things with a pinch of salt e.g. I doubt he did exactly the same each day and I doubt he ate the same each day. However, the training levels aren't so high I'd dismiss them and I've heard of pro-athletes doing more.

3/4 days a week of training is enough for your body,. I believe thats overtraining doing it 7 days a week, cmon your body needs rest too.
