As far as action goes, the Seldon "fight".
The Spinks fight was pretty lame too, tbh. 91 seconds of complete anti-climax.

Tyson changes his story on what his primary reason for biting Holyfield was.
In the last few years I've heard him say he used the headbutting thing as an excuse and to get sympathy, and that he hated Holyfield because he couldn't hurt him and better him ... .... I've also heard him continue to insist - to various degrees - that it was the headbutting and the referee's ignorance that made him do it, and that Holyfield wasn't in his league ..... other times he just says he went nuts for whatever reasons, pressure, self-loathing, whatever.

The most ironic thing about the headbutt excuse is that Tyson even in his prime was a rough fighter who, like Holyfield, often used elbows and butts etc. It's part of the game and referee's can't do much about it when the fighters have aggressive styles.
And his whole image was supposed to be a "throwback" to the days of Dempsey, Greb, Walker, Marciano rough, tough, vicious fighters, who would bend the rules, and take it as well as dish it out.

Tyson even said once himself "Holyfield beat me at the butting game" ... a game that Tyson himself was usually the master of.

Don't know about that, but here's the November 1987 exhibition.

that was one of the embarrassing things about it to me, the contradiction. you cant use that as an excuse when you live by those rules yourself. when he was trying to explain himself to Jim Grey he sounded like a little boy that wanted to know why the teacher just picked on him. I wonder what those old timers would have thought of that. By then I think Tyson lost his connection with those guys and was a bitter victim of society in his own mind.

I didn't see Tyson break the rules much post prison up to the Holyfield rematch. Maybe he was self conscious about being a dirty fighter in his earlier career and dwelled on that after 3 years of being locked up? He obviously wanted a better self image after being released. From McNeely to Seldon I didn't see him even bending the rules. Maybe an elbow or two against Bruno? Can't remember.

Possible, but after fight 1 the butts were pointed out to him on replay, with Tyson apparently unaware of them during the fight, and he looked pissed off. When they began happening in fight 2 its quite possible he thought, **** you, you want a street fight il give you a street fight, take this, AAAARGGGHHHH,

Do you mean Tyson showed these weaknesses. Have to agree,
Tillis's movement troubled Mike. Mike said after he just wanted rounds
but it was a learning experience for Mike. I enjoy this fight some action
and a beautiful highlight leading up to the knockdown. Tucker was
a tactical battle Tucker stunned Mike early. I actually have not seen
Mike vs Green thats gotta be the only Tyson fight I havent seen,
    gotta be Bonecrusher though.

No one mentioned the Botha fight?

Tyson looked awful in that, not only that but Botha was openly mocking Tyson, laughign at him, talking to him and even double punching him round the ears.

No one had ever tried to humiliate Tyson like that ever.

It makes the knockout all that more satisfying :D

Yeah, an elbow or two against Bruno probably. McNeeley and Seldon "fights" hardly got started. Mathis was a different sort of puzzle.

Most of the time Tyson states he did it out of frustration. He was getting his ass kicked, outboxed and 'outdirtied' by Holyfield and Tyson just snapped. Tyson has never been known for patience, only someone like Rooney kept a lid on that. Even against Smith, at the end of the first round, Tyson punched Smith after the bell, out of frustration. I do think it was a mixture of reasons. Also, i found it strange but in the 1st fight when Tyson gets a cut, the crowd were actually jeering Tyson and chanting Holyfields name. Holyfields own comments on the bite were 'if you pin a bull into a corner, hes going to come out of that corner fighting any way he can'. Tyson probably was under pressure, remember hed been stopped by holyfield previously and his whole career, livelihood depended on this fight. In the Toback film Tyson states he knew Holyfield was good but not in his (Tysons) league. Make of that what you may.

Also the iconic thing is, Round 3, the bite fight, was the only time in Tysons career (to my knowledge) where the crowd actually chanted his name. It was also the only time where we saw a flash of the 'old Tyson'. Just a shame Tyson didnt have the disicpline to keep it together.

If anything Tyson was a great fighter prior to prison, willing to give and take. Post prison, i personally believe Tyson lost the fighting guts and basically became a 'bully' i.e living off his past glories, he just felt power/intimidation and chin will get him through, and it did a lot of the time. But Holyfield is not a guy your going to beat on just power alone.

I wouldnt say Tyson was a master of the butting game, he was more the elbows kinda guy and i wouldnt be surprised if Cus taught him that technique.

Where's this old mythical bull**** come from about Tyson in round 3 against Holyfield? Yes he upped his workrate and the crowd cheered a little but he was outfought in that round by Holyfield. Tyson was going to get his ass kicked yet again and he knew it. Poor little Mike couldn't handle being in the ring with a guy who gave as good as he got!

Until the bite, Tyson was winning the 3rd round. Even the commentators admitted Tyson had suddenly 'come to life'

Tyson himself said in the James Toback film that he wanted to box cautiously for the first couple of rounds.

Pull Holyfields dick out of your mouth

Wow! because he was winning the round he was going to destroy Holyfield! He never once connected with a good shot or once stunned or hurt Holyfield. All he did was throw a few pitter patter combinations. Now please stop wanking over this legendary round 3 from Tyson! :rofl

Tyson says a lot of things after fights, didn't he once say he was going to eat a certain somebody's children???
