It’s a very good matchup. On the surface I can see Tubbs building an early lead and winning some rounds by outboxing weaver. But Hercules came on late in 15 round fights to beat Tate, Coetzee and Tillis who were also good boxers. In addition, Tubbs was stopped by left hooks on a few occasions in his career albeit when past it. And weaver threw some good lefts. Not sure how this ends but Tubbs often poor conditioning may take effect late in the fight giving Weaver the chance he needs to score a knockout.
Tubbs is really cute and builds up a solid lead into the 10th round. In the 11th, Weaver hits him with a scythe left hook, nearly takes his head off. The end.
What year is it? When Tony turned pro in June of '80, Michael was reigning WBA champ with 31 pro bouts already under his belt. Tony was the better boxer, Michael the harder puncher. Tony was a quick starter, Michael felt opponents out and loosened up and came on strong in late rounds. But after his two Dokes debacles, Michael lost his faith in the fairness of the sport and was never the same in the ring. So, I'd say 1983 is the turning point. Bottom line: Pre May '83, Weaver by KO. Post May '83, Tubbs by UD.
Providing Tubbs comes into the fight in good condidtion - weighing around 229 lbs,as he was against Greg Page,he wins this on points with his superior boxing skills and movement. Anything less, Mike overhauls an early lead and stops him.
