Just finished watching Weaver vs Ruddock. Seems to me that Weaver should have gotten the decision.

I haven't seen the fight in a bit, but it wouldn't surprise me. Ruddock was an up and comer with a strong punch and an exciting style, and it made him win decisions a lot easier than he likely should've.
He got outworked by an old Dokes and an old Page ahead of each of their own stoppages, so it makes sense, not to mention the fact that those fights were years after the Weaver bout.

Bonecrusher nearly had him out in the second round. That punch was huge

Would he unsurprising but I don’t know I haven’t watched this fight in ages. Weaver was a quality fighter.

And this might add confirmation to that other thread about Weaver being one of the best of the 80s

Jake, didn't see it that way at all. But then again, everyone sees things differently. Scored it awhile back. This is what I wrote:

    Razor Ruddock v Mike Weaver

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Razor
    Round 3: 10-9 Razor
    Round 4: 10-9 Weaver
    Round 5: 10-9 Razor
    Round 6: 10-9 Razor
    Round 7: 10-9 Razor
    Round 8: 10-10 Even
    Round 9: 10-9 Razor
    Round 10: 10-9 Razor

Total: 99-93 Razor (actual scores: 98-92 and 97-93 both for Razor and an unusual 96-94 for Weaver with Razor the winner via split decision)

It's hard to believe that this is the same Razor Ruddock who would go on to appear in Ring Magazine's '100 greatest punchers of all time'. At this stage of the game he was strictly a speedy jab artist who would occasionally zero in with some sharp combos. With George Chuvalo in his corner he was a sharp boxer. I don't know when he discovered his left uppercut but it was a shame to see the fundamentals go out the window. I am still amazed at the judge who scored for Weaver. I've always liked Mike, but at this stage of the game he looked like he was punching under water. Still, he did catch Ruddock with a left hook in the 4th that stunned him, but he had the wherewithal to grab and get on his bike til the cobwebs cleared, for the only real drama of the fight.

I agree with you. I think it was a competitive but clear win for Ruddock.
I have Weaver winning rounds 1,3,4. The 8 was also even for me and Ruddock took the rest.

At that time Ruddock was a move and jab fighter, constantly on his toes, not really exciting. Only later did he discover he could punch. Once he discovered he could punch he abandoned his jab. Too bad he could not have blended the two.

i viewed live. Ruddock was unknown in America. Weaver was win some lose some. Ruddock boxed well knowing Weaver was slower and avoided Weaver's power. Ruddock was wobbled once. Ruddock deserved decision.

Wow Ruddock was badly hurt in 4th.

I still wonder how Ruddock went 12 vs Tyson in the rematch. He wasn't gass-jawed, but neither he had an iron chin, and his defensive skills weren't great. He was badly hurt in numerous fights.

I hear you, this was still when Ruddock still boxed, so him winning a decision makes some sense.
