Ruddock had a good chin, but was very prone to leaving himself off balance, and admiring his own work.
You can see it in the Smith fight, and you can see it in the first Tyson fight, both times he'd bust off a combination or a real strong punch, then stand there slack jawed, which would lead to him getting dropped.

 

I think that Floyd Patterson might've been too kind on him, because he'd say something in the corner, and Ruddock just wouldn't listen. After he found The Smash, no matter what he was told, he'd just look for a place to align it, even at the worst times.

 

I get what you're saying but Weaver was one of the harder hitting Heavyweights of the 80s, he had serious power in that left hook and could hurt anyone if he connected cleanly.

 

Sometimes it’s just a good punch Weaver hit hard no doubt of course but Toney hurt heavyweights and so did Conn it doesn’t mean those guys they hit were “fragile” being stunned or rocked by smaller fighters.
