Mike Williams, I remember him. He looked pretty cocky coming into the Sanders fight ... that didn't last long.
I saw one of his early fights. He was fighting some random journeyman and early on, the guy hit Williams and almost knocked him down. It was late in the round, and the guy backed off, even though Williams was in big trouble. The next round, the first reasonably solid punch Williams hit the guy with, the journeyman went down for the count. Very sketchy. Couldn't take him seriously after that fight.
I was reading trivia about the Rocky movies. When I found Williams was a real boxer I decided to look up some of his fights and read a little bit about him. He was actually supposed to have a real bout with Tommy Morrison. It was dubbed The real Cane vs Gunn but they couldn't get Williams to leave his dressing room for the fight.
So many of these heavyweight prospects fall back once they start with the demands of 10 round fights. He was hardly the first and certainly won't be the last.
