Walters weighs 130 pounds. How much power do you expect from him? Put Loma in the ring with Lemiuex who only weighs 30 pounds more than him and watch how the massive skill disparity means jack.

You're arguing something totally different now. Which is it? Power most important or size? Size does not always equate to power. Size can negate IQ when using extreme examples like you're doing. Loma vs Lemeuix? Wtf? Weight classes exist to negate size, to make it fair. Thus negating the argument that size or power is most important. You can't measure ring IQ definitively enough to separate thousands.

Take racing for example, they have different vehicle classes. Most vehicles are then equal, meaning the driver is most important, aka the BRAIN behind the vehicle. Which is why the driver wins championships and not the car.

Size is important because bigger fighters on average hit harder and take a better punch. The hardest punching big man will always punch harder than the hardest punching little man.

Which brings me back to my point. We have 17 weight classes because bigger men hit harder. And if you hit too hard then power can single handedly take over the fight.

The reason why Lemiuex would destroy Loma despite having zero skill compared to Loma is he hits too ****ing hard.

Yeah, you'd need some sort of ranking organization or something.

    At 135 I favor Lomo.
I got Garcia over Crawford though

Lemieux and Loma won't even be fighting, poor comparison. Let's stick to the rules of boxing. Loma has beaten guys faster and stronger than him, BECAUSE HE'S SMARTER.

You can't compare a lightweight to a middleweight and then use that as your basis for argument lol

    Urkel,

I think you just like to argue... Not enough attention in the real world? Anyways... what's the one concern for any fighter moving up? Getting seriously hurt. Why? Bigger dudes pack bigger punches. That's why ODLH and Cotto were picked to violently destroy Pacquiao. And that's why after fighting Margarito at 150, Pacquiao was like EFF THIS, I'M OUT.

Size is obviously important, which is why guys stick to their weights. But it's a non factor because there are weight classes. Which is why ring IQ is more important.

In short, the existence of weight classes eliminates size being the number one attribute. With weight classes, the fields are more leveled, so it boils down to intelligence.

Saying "size/power is the #1 attribute in a boxer" assumes weight classes don't exist.

I never once said that, so why did you put it in quotes? I said that power is the great equalizer and can change the direction/outcome of a fight.

Btw, you used Pacquiao in your defense.

@tinman said "power is the most important thing in boxing", your Pacquiao example is evidence that it is not.

And i never denied that, i already told you. It is a great equalizer like you said. My debate was with tinman, not you. Tinman said that.

Okay, that's tinman. I enjoy his posts/threads, but do not agree that power is the most important thing in boxing.

That's a tough call. He definitely has unusual power at his size but you know how difficult it is to translate that to guys who are bigger than you are naturally. I'm not sure why guys want fighters who carry huge power at one weight to move up and fight guys who are so much bigger. Guys call for GGG to fight Ward. I personally think GGG is a superior fighter to Ward but I think Ward would beat GGG if he fought Ward because Ward would be too big. If a guy naturally puts on weight throughout his career and moves up as that natural weight is put on, I see nothing wrong with that but for someone like Lomachenko to move up and fight guys who are naturally 10-20 pounds bigger than he is, is sheer lunacy. People who want this really just want to see Lomachenko or GGG to get beaten. Could Lomanchenko or GGG win? Sure, it's possible but they would have to fight the perfect fight and probably do it at a heavy price.

So why don't Lightweights and Middleweights fight each other then?
