I think Mikey is going to go far. Yes, he hasn't fought any big names but the ones he has fought he has shown some amazing skill. Sticks to the fundamentals: keeps his guard up, utilizes the jab, knows when to be defensive and when to be aggressive, and when he chooses to be aggressive, utilizes combinations to throw his opponents defense off. I've been following him for a while and one thing that stood out to me from him last fight was when Martinez knocked him down. I like the way he stayed calm and didn't get all stupid and reckless. He showed he's got what it takes not only physically but mentally and I'm surprised I don't see much talk about him. What do you guys think about this upcoming prospect?
I really really like the look of Mikey. He's pretty well known already but yeah definitely onwards and upwards for him, I could see him clean up.
IMO hes already one of the best fighters in the world and i can see him having a great career winning titles in multiple divisions(up to 140 and maybe even 147) with that said Gamboa whoops him.
This content is protected This is another case of "Nonaire-ism, Canelo-ism" or better known as over hyping of C level boxers. :verysad People here rave on dudes who fight nothing BUT undersized opponents, well passed or has beens. Take Nonaire, just defeated Darshinian or what ever his name is. Dude that 1. he already KO'd, and 2. he is well pass it and guess what, was winning the fight and was about to upset Hypenaire. Now, he is to fight "El Traiveso" atsch REALLY???? WTF, REALLY!!!!! Same with Garcia, another hype job who will be exposed soon. Not impresed by either one. :bart
He'll be a decent champion but nowhere near the next big thing. People like to hype up very textbook style fighters. I remember when Humberto Soto was getting hyped to be the next Morales. Ye's he has good fundamentals, but look at every elite in history and you will see they have far more than just very good fundamentals. Floyd, Pacquiao, SRL, Chavez, RJJ, Pea etc. Every single one of them has something that stands out and is on a legendary level, whether it be their defense, speed, power, stamina etc. Garcia has decent power, decent speed, good counter skills, and has already been dropped by a C level fighter.
I'm really impressed with him too. He's got great technique, ring IQ and his power looks pretty good. And he's still young.
I disagree about Canelo and Donaire. Canelo is versatile both offensively and defensively and has been in there with all types of opponents, including slick guys and he has shown he can compete at a high level. He was outclassed by Mayweather, but that just shows you what level Mayweather is on. Mayweather is one of the best of all time. Donaire has electric power, great speed, and excellent anticipation, as well as a very versatile offense. He's proved he can win against all types of opponents, including guys that dwarf him in height and reach. However, I'm not sold on Garcia. Garcia is just too straight up and down. It won't take a Rigo level boxer to outbox him. You're also not giving enough credit to Darchinyan who is a HIGHLY SKILLED fighter. Way more SKILLED than he gets credit for. I love his style. It's old school.
