Sounds sort of depressing. Basically says TR havent really spoken to him about fighting anyone in about a year. Talks a little about how hard it is to get fights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39-Xo_Ykpqw
Last I heard, TR offered to make a fight and Garcia demanded a lot of money, so nothing happened and he's still on the shelf. He's got some entitlement issues...and things kinda got to his head, kinda like Ward. TR invested in him so they expected a return and Garcia think he can just take his new-found fame and run away quickly. So what if it's only 3 fights...that's only a years time. Finish the contact and do whatever you want. Look like what TR is doing with Crawford...the guys is a future star and he's being lined up for a Pacquiao fight. Garcia would've been the one...but he decided to sue instead.
And if on the last fight of that 3 fight contract, they wont give him an opponent unless he fights another 3 fights? Thats basically what it sounds like his current situation is. He has one fight left, but they wont make a fight for him unless he signs an extension. For purely boxing reasons, I hope it all gets sorted and hes back in the ring soon. Hes a top level P4P fighter when hes fighter
In a contractual dispute, nothing is black and white. Garcia has his side of the story, the same way JCC Jr. has his side of the story when he was trying to break from TR. Garcia signed a contract that he didn't like and he's trying to break away, so I doubt it's just one fight. I remember the situation was that he signed overlapping contracts that extended his time with TR, but he tried to use California labor laws to leave the promoter (The same stupid tactic that Ward used). It didn't work for Ward and it won't work for Garcia. There is a reason why Garcia wanted his next fight to be in South California instead of another state...so he can say that's he a California "employee" and try to get the contract voided. He's wasting his time if he think he can just walk away without TR getting some kind of return on investment.
What the hell is going on over on Top Rank with all of their fighters? 1.Rigondeaux is all but retired after being slighted and dropped by TR and HBO. 2.Gamboa ran off with 50 Cent to a worst deal than he had at TR. Most likely more his fault than theirs. 3.Walters just beat 2 top fighters and has a mis-match lined up. 4.Mikey Garcia is willing to fight Terence Crawford win or lose just to get out of his contract. 5. Pacquiao and TR are no longer seeing eye to eye about his boxing career and TR is about to cash him out. 6. Donaire...doesn't know what division he wants to fight in or even if he wants to fight at all anymore. 7. Loma is reduced to fighting bums after all of that talk about facing the best.
Here's what I can piece together from this whole situation: - Garcia may have only 1 fight left from his old contract - He signed a 2nd contract that he wants out of. TR obviously saw something in him, so they wanted to renew his contract...and Mikey signed it. It's no one's fault but his own. - Garcia wants to fight in California so that he can strengthen his case against TR to get out of his 2nd contract. California labor law states that an employer cannot keep an employee under contract for more than 7 years. However, as demonstrated by the Ward case, it doesn't apply to everyone. - Bob is not stupid...he was a lawyer after all. He probably doesn't want to make a fight for Garcia in California because it would improve Mikey's chances of getting out of the 2nd contract he signed. So TR doesn't want to make any fights for Garcia until he's ready to fulfill the 2nd contract. - TR is ready to make a fight for Garcia, but they want him to fulfill his 2nd contract. They're also probably ready to make a fight for him outside of California. However, Garcia doesn't want that...because it would put him in a position to lose the case easily. And TR certainly doesn't want to give Garcia any big fights...because why bother with someone who wants to leave? As you can see, neither side wants to make a move that would jeopardize their chances of winning the case. That's why Garcia is on the shelf. TR definitely holds the upper hand. They can wait as long as they want until Mikey is ready to finish off the contract. Meanwhile, Garcia continues to waste his career away because he think he can win a game he has no chance of winning.
