Even after this sub-par showing, I stand by my assertion in this recent thread regarding Monaghan perhaps being superior at this point to Peter Manfredo Jr. (mainly due to Manfredo's deterioration)

Round 7

Cantrell is stumbling around getting tagged with overhand rights to the nose. Body shots by Monaghan. Double hooks and uppercuts by Monaghan. Cantrell has an invisible dartboard hanging over his face. Monaghan is still getting slapped a bit on the way in but Cantrell is putting hardly anything on his stuff. The main struggle for Monaghan now is the blood loss and respiratory trouble from his cuts (left eye and nose).

Round 8

Cantrell is circling left and jabbing, falling short and going wide. Monaghan dances to his left and places a more accurate jab, flat on Cantrell's nose. Cantrell bats down with both arms, hitting Monaghan around the neck. Stiff jabs by Monaghan, circling and weaving behind his guard. Overhand right and some wild uppers by Cantrell flopping in. Monaghan props against Cantrell's flabby belly with his fists sticking in like toothpicks in a sandwich, then turns him and navigates around him. Big looping shot by Cantrell and Monaghan's dulled reflexes from fatigue and blood loss aren't letting him get out of the way. They're both shipping leather regularly throughout the last minute.

Could see it maybe as close as 77-75 to Monaghan, as Sheridan and Marquez have it. A draw would be reaching. Can't see a win for Cantrell.

 

Cantrell is kneeling and praying in the corner.
