Mikey Garcia - What Happened?

I think there is something like a beef between Garcia's stable and Bob Arum going on. Rios is kind of sidelined too and Garcia is more and more openly criticizing Top Rank in interviews.

 

He passed on those fights. Arum offered him Gamboa before he offered the fight to Crawford. The idea was that Garcia would become lightweight king and then move up to 140 and fight Pacquiao for big money. Now, all that is going to Crawford because he did something Mikey Garcia wasn't willing to do. He said yes.

 

Nobody likes to train, but a few of them do like to fight. Roberto Duran liked to fight. Toney I think likes to fight he doesn't hardly train just spars all the time and wants to get to 100 matches. Pacquiao used to like to fight. You can see them smiling in the ring as they are pounding on people. GGG likes to fight. Mike Tyson liked to fight.

However, I've heard that Ray Leonard and Floyd Patterson liked other sports more than boxing. Like they would rather ski or play tennis, but they could make better money through boxing.

 

I'm looking forward to him coming back. He's one of the best.

 

The current 135 division is there for him to take. He could easily get his belt and then move to 140.
He's talented for sure. I enjoyed watching him smoke Rocky Martinez(aside from that 1 round).

He didn't like boxing to begin with, think he found a job as a policeman & just stopped caring with the management issues dragging on.

 

Apparently his Legal issues are now behind him, according to the scene.

Will be returning st 140, with a view to maybe moving down to 135

 

Arum wanted nothing to do with a Garcia-Gamboa fight when they were both at 126 and Garcia was firmly aligned with Top Rank. The only reason the fight was floated at all was because he saw Garcia's discontent with their promotional arrangement and decided to propose that fight to make Garcia look like a ducker. Apparently it's worked.

 

Wouldn't it be better to just fight and finish out your contract if that all it is about? Being active and making money are better than staying on the shelf.

 

Yeah another guy who could of just fought until his contract ended.

 

Ask Marquez how that worked. He fought John to get out of his contract and Top Rank and a willing press portrayed him as an idiot businessman who turned down a Pacquiao fight to travel to Indonesia, which was completely spin on a number of levels.
