After watching the replay of this past weekends Antwone Smith vs Henry Crawford fight i came to ask the question, What happened to all the good trainers in the sport? Who is Mike "Red" Skowronski? Someone had mentioned on another forum that he was "Arturo Gatti's spit bucket boy" (cheif 2nd). I looked him up and asked around and it was brought to my attention that he was the guy in Arturo's corner during Gatti Ward 2 that forgot the ice in the locker room and Arturo screamed at him for it. Theres a clip on Youtube.Pretty embarressing. Arturo got rid of him a few fights later. Then he resurfaced last year working the corner for the 1st time as a head trainer of Andre Tsurkan, who was brutally beaten on HBO that night. Skowronski got ridiculed the whole night by the HBO team. I still remember the cries from Jim Lampley "Stop this fight, what is his trainer thinking" and the same from Max Kellerman. Again pretty embarrasing for Skowronski.Now with what he did to Henry Crawfords career. Shameful. I dont know who else this Skowronski trains but the proof is in the pudding and he is a recipe for DANGER!!If I was a young fighter Id steer clear of Mikey Red Skowronski
Boxing is a dirty business. People end up relying on chumps just out of lack of anyone else rather than their ability. Its like the lonely person who goes out with someone who abuses them. All too common in the world.
