7mil? wtf??? Some of these numbers just don't make sense to me. Didn't see Mikey as that much of a draw, specially after the Spence showing, and Vargas certainly isn't, so where does the money come from? For comparison, I think Pac/Morales/MAB used to get paid 2-3 mil for their fights with each other which was drawing 350k ppv, which is very good by most standards. Meanwhile, Porter got offered 2mil vs Crawford? Either Arum is massively underpaying or these new promoters are overpaying, or somewhere in the middle.
Totally! I must admit, I hate hearing that folks might have turned down afight because they "ONLY" been offered 2 million. But If I was Porter seeing Garcia get 7 mill for Vargas after his sparring match with Spence, I'd be demanding more too, damn straight!!!!
Mikey talks a lot of wind. All that big fat Melon Head wants is to do is stuff his face down at the buffet and flirt with Elie Seckbach in the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy.
hes a free agent, not under contract with anyone. you might not agree with the mercenary spirit of how it plays out, i dont, but his numbers keep guaranteeing hes worth the investment. this will offer more insight. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshka...-because-hes-using-his-clout/?sh=4230689f3b86 hes fighting above his weight, but his credentials are legit. he barely lost rds across 4 divisions. and he didnt have his ponce deleon or salido moment. i take that back, he made his salido look like a drunk in an alley. if you cant see his quality, ydksab.
Hahaha.. I remember they wore that narratives out for months until the Spence fight actually happened. Mikey then proceeded to only win 10 seconds of the whole fight. They didn’t think Spence could box for some reason they thought he was a brawler.
in fairness, spence up to that point was smashing guys on the inside. half this very site was saying spence cant box and is just a brawler. they outsmarted the garcia camp. left mikey with all his combinations in his holster.
Yeah I forgot about that you’re absolutely right. He get some heat for not KOing Mikey but to me it was a great performance because Mikey was suppose to be the one with the textbook boxing skills. I knew he could box from the stories that was told about his sparring sessions with Floyd to prepare him for the Cotto fight.
i knew so as well. just watching what he could do, when he wanted to, in between smashing dudes. i could see his control of distance, his speed of legs in gaining position, etc... i just figured, like the garcias apparently, that this little dude who last fought at 135, is coming into my ring, where ive been crushing bigger guys than him. im gonna hurt this dude. sugar rayed his ass instead.
Sounds like a good fight. Props for Mikey taking on Spence, but I think 140 is a much better fit for him.
140 is where Mikey should be anyway. There's nothing at 47 for him but losses to the top guys. Hopefully, this fight gets made because I don't see either guy as a full welterweight.
