"Cult of personality." He had a core group of posters who would find a way to pivot every thread into one about Kessler. Basically the same as the weirdo Dillian Whyte fan on here, but like 4-5 of them.

Can think of many fighters with much more rabid fans on here TBF. Never really noticed Kessler's in all honesty

I mean, I was the leader of the Kessler bandwagon on here in those halcyon days (@Amsterdam, who I know annoyed many people with his megaphone shouting over both Kessler and Cristian Mijares, in both cases jumped on bandwagons that had already been started by me)...so. Not sure what @Lesion of Doom is talking about. If there was a thread about the super middleweight championship picture, then yeah, I probably made sure to shoehorn Mikkel's name in and proclaim him the best, nothing excessive though. :nusenuse:

Ha! I didn't associate you with Amsterdam and that tool New Wind, not sure if you consider that a positive or a negative.

Q: "Who do you guys think would win between Tarver and Adamek?"
A: "Well, I'd favor Tarver, but tbh if Kessler moves up he'd beat either of them easily." (Note: Five years later, Kessler was still at 168.)

Q: "Prime for prime, who does the board think would win a round robin at 168 between Jones, Hopkins, Toney and McClellan?"
A: "I'm not sure the point of this question, because Kessler obviously is better than all of them. He's much faster than Jones and easily more skilled and cagey than Hopkins or Toney. McClellan would be cannon fodder and stopped in the first round. He couldn't even beat a faded Benn."

Stuff like that, day after day. Not really boxing fans or interested in learning about the sport, just true believer Kessler fans. (IB, your emergence from that group is shocking and admirable!)

My love of Kessler was every bit as strong, but I was less obnoxious about it.

Amst was the Stalin of Kesslerism, whereas I was more its Marx.

Come on man, that's gotta be sensationalised. Lol. Nobody in serious discussion will say that as bluntly.

But Kessler was world class in his pomp. Only Outworked by joecal, outbutted by ward and outprimed by froch.

...I do still kinda think if a prime Kessler jumped up to light heavyweight, it wouldn't be unreasonable to slightly favor him over both Goral & Milkdud.

If Kess was on Roy and Toney's enhancements it would be Pump City.

It's dramatized but not *that* far off. Admittedly, nothing from team Kessler could ever touch the foolishness spewed by Mayweather and Pac fans who eventually over-ran and ruined the board for a time, but those two guys were global superstars. It's always weirder to me when someone like Kessler, Pavlik (he had a few, one in particular) or Whyte (!!) has them.

Over time, my annoyance faded away and came to really enjoy Kessler. I wish he had beaten Calzaghe. His win over Froch was incredible.

Same, actually, at least around 2006. I might favor 2003 Tarver slightly. Harding/Kessler would have been a good fight.

Absolute legend, and was in a number of great fights. He provided me with some of the best boxing memories of the 00's, was a stand up guy, always respectable, and will be remembered fondly.

Also, Joe C Wales looking pretty good!

Slick photo of Kessler and Calzaghe. Cool to see foes become friends. Congrats VW. Man he was in SMW at a high point, any other time I think he would've gone further.
