The broken finger that caused former 4 time alphabet titleholder at supermiddleweight to postpone his challenge to WBO champion Robert Stieglitz requires surgery. Kessler tells danish TV2sporten that he needs to have a screw inserted in the broken finger. "I don't know yet when the operation will take place, but after the surgery I must have a 6 week break". Kessler is still dissapointed that he had to dissapoint his fans but promises to be back at 100%: "I'm happy that at least the injury isn't career threatening", Kessler says and hopes the Stieglitz fight gets rescheduled. "Stieglitz is the guy I want. It's him I have prepared for." It's the seventh time in his career the dane has suffered a hand injury.
Maybe he should just retire.. He has always had a fragile body, all the injuries, surgeries and it seems like it doesnt stop.. I thought that the 14 month break could have made him less injury prone, but i was wrong, he will keep getting these type of injuries and it wont get better by time.. He has also taken some beatings by both Froch and Ward, those kind of fights would take something out of any fighter.. 46 fights (Takes alot from a human body to get through that, also conider that his body is clearly not made to tough training camps and wars inside the ring), 44 wins, 33 KO's, 11 world title fights, 9 wins, 6 KO's, 3 times world champion, has beaten a bunch of current or former champions. been a top ranked SMW for almost an entire decade.. About 15 million dollars on the bank account(not sure if this is accurate).. I really think that he should sit down and think this through..
I hope Kessler gets himself sorted. Im more concerned for Kessler about his eye trouble. Is that completely better? If Kessler beats Steiglitz he will have won WBC WBA & WBO SMW titles which is very impressive. The worry I have for Kessler now is that his weaknesses have been found now and I think if he fights someone like Bute who moves well, he could be in for yet another tough night.
I wish somehow Bute could pay Johnson some step aside $$$$ and get a unification bout with Steiglitz. Then.....when/if Kessler is ever ready to fight, all roads lead through Bute. Kessler will be wishing he'd have taken Butes offer the first time around.:good
If Stieglitz doesnt turn it down again :yep Kessler is a mando, and thats the reason why Stieglitz was(/is going to fight him. A unification would of course go before a mando, but then its up to Stieglitz and his people to make the necessary assessment about who they rather meet and how much they can get money wise. Would be out of the question that they would still turn Bute down, and go for the probably declining guy (Kessler)
