This matchup is obviously is for bragging rights for no:1 position in SM division.

That reallys says everything about how poor this division really is.

I thought Calzaghe fight Mario Veit twice was bad, this isn't as bad but its a strategic move by Kesslers promotional team, they are trying to cash in on their golden goose, after this fight expect Kessler to make many defences in Europe.....hell probably fight andrade and Beyer next. Then everyone will be saying what a "killer" this guy is. sigh....Bring Back Toney,Jones,Nunn even Steve Collins

You obviously doesent follow the SMW very closely. The division has Calzaghe who is Number 2-3 PFP, Kessler still ranks in the top 15. Combined with names like Bute, Mundine, Andrade, Taylor, Winky, Inkin, Froch and Miranda you have one of the most competitive divisions in boxing today.

And on the Kessler issue, it is a known fact that he is seeking out the big american names (Taylor, Winky and Pavlik). In order to get any of those fighters in the ring with him, he needs to hold a title, in that regard Mundine is the right fight for him now!

Calzaghe's blueprint wouldn't help Mundine much. Calzaghe beat Kessler with his jab and workrate - Mundine can do neither. His jab is ok, but Kessler's is much better - and his workrate - well Mundine might up it a bit, but get close to Calzaghe's 1000 punches - no way.

The outcome depends on Kessler - how will the loss have affected him? - if he comes back his "normal" self he'll win a UD or TKO. If he comes back damaged, then Mundine is good enough to win the fight.

I think it will be a TKO for Kessler this time around - not that I think Mundine hasn't improved - I agree to that (although I don't think he has improved as much as some seem to think - after all Beyer beat Green too and he is/was still considered a bum by many) - I actually think Mundine's improvement will be his downfall - I exspect Mundine to come much more forward - if he fights as defensively as last time he'll loose the same way - he has to try and come to Kessler. When Mundine comes forward I think Kessler will catch him - the uppercuts that Kessler caught Calzaghe with will put Mundine down - Either he stays down or he gets up and fights the rest of the fight timid and lose on points.

Another factor that is going to be interesting to see is a fit Kessler versus Mundine - last time around he wasn't fit and was gasping for air by round 3-4 - this time around Kessler will hopefully not be injured and he'll then be able to keep Mundine under constant pressure.

Mundine's last opponents might also be a factor - if he comes out as careless as he did versus Hamdan he isn't going past the 6th round...

A good fight - two fighters from top5 facing eachother - good for boxing.

I expect a very competitive and good fight like the last one, only this time I have Kessler winning by KO.

I think that Kessler will show up as a better, more clever and more well rounded fighter after the Calzaghe loss. I really do think he learned alot.

Kessler by KO 8. One of those left hooks will probably end Mundine.

I'd like nothing more than to see Mundine win this fight, but It's a win I just can't see him pulling off.

He'll need to, and I believe he will, lift his workrate, and come out more aggressive like he did against Green and soliman, but, and this is a big but...he'll need to maintain it when he gets hit, and he will definitely get hit a bit.

Against Green, he didn't get hit enough to warrant lowering his workrate. Green never made him respect his power. Soliman didn't hit him much, but when he did, it wasn't effective which resulted in Mundine fighting the whole fight coming forward at him, which isn't usually Mundine's go.

I do think that theres a misconception about Kessler's power. Perhaps it's brought about by his big frame and tattoo's. He'll often land at will against his opponents and not even stagger them (Andrade, Lucas, Thysse, Thobela, and Mundine was also never staggered, though he never got hit as much as the others).

Mundine will have to step it up another notch for him to win this, and my mind says Kessler will have to put in a below normal performance for him to lose.

    Kessler UD 116 - 112

If they didn't stagger Mundine then, what makes you think they'll somehow end him this time around?!

I agree mate, Kesslers power is over rated, probably because he doesn't possess a big aresenal of punches. If he were to throw in more hooks and shorter punches he could probably finish guys off after landing his hard straight shots. He hits hard yes, but i don't think he is a devestating puncher by any means.

    Since when is this happening?

Boxrec has Mundine fighting Soliman in May, on the topic of pointless rematches..:huh

Calzaghe got caught with the uppercut because he was putting his head forwad and down when coming in. I have never ever in his entire career seen Mundine fight like that. If you expect Kess to catch Mundine with uppercuts, you might want to think again. Very unlikely to happen due to Mundines style. Kess's best punches will be hitting through and around Mundines high guard, particularly when he backs onto the ropes.

There was a rematch clause in the original contract, so Mundine cannot get out of it to the best of my knowledge. Not unless someone pays Soliman to forget it, or if he has time within the contract to face Soliman after the Kessler bout.... Not sure of the exact stipulations...
