You must think Eubank was a bum(or just know nothing about him at all) to think Kessler would stop him. Kessler would be facing someone about as hard to stop cleanly as Andrade, with much more skill and style to figure out.
first of all, if i thought Kessler would stop him, i would have voted Kessler by KO, which i didn't Secondly, i have seen 2 eubank fights and do not think he is a bum, his first fight against Nigel Benn and his fight against Joe Calzaghe, so no, i don't know much about him. I can only base my pick on what i know. I think Kessler would take a few rounds to time his jab, and then dominate the fight from a distance with it, probably leading to a wide UD, but possibly to a TKO. I do not think that Kessler would stop him cleanly, or even knock him down.
Having grown up watching Eubank and having seen quite a lot of Kessler I'd have to disagree with this.
Peak 168lb Eubank vs the Euro-Stiff Kessler? Sure, Kessler is a disciplined boxer but we're talking an A Grade vs a B Grade fighter here, if Joe "feather fists" Calzaghe winded Kessler to the body, can you imagine what one of Eubank's right hands would do? Eubank by decision, if not TKO. The guy was a beast with proper preparation and motivation, I don't see how anyone can give this fight to Kessler.
I'd probably pick Kessler to outpoint Eubank. I think his style represents a lot of problems for Eubank. His jab and worrate in particular would really hurt Eubank's chances in this fight. I look at it stylistically, and I don't see why anyone would favour Eubank. I'm certainly not writing him off as he was great phsycially, but the styles favour Kessler in this one. I think his straight combos would land effectively on Eubank, who would keep the fight really close for maybe 10 rounds. Kessler would finish stronger and pick up a close UD. Maybe 115-113.
I haven't seen enough of Eubank(s) to give a "safe" assumption. I just remember I hated the way he posed before and after a win. The future of Kessler will decide how great Kessler will be. His next fight will be announced shortly. I risk saying Kessler by close UD.
Eubank would be troubled by Kesslers style and stiff jab. On the other hand Kessler could gas in the later rounds. I rate Kessler very high, as an A level fighter, and Eubank is there as well. Looking at the styles Im leaning towards Kessler by UD.
God, this is ******ation. Kessler has one major flaw as a boxer which means he is a target for anyone who can throw an accurate overhand right. What is that flaw? He moves straight back when being pressured, rather than to the side. He has limited to no head movement and you're saying he's going to avoid Eubank's speciality punch? This is a guy who beat Benn, one of the hardest punchers at 160-168 ever. He then gave Rocchigiani his first loss - same Rocchigani that took DM and Henry Maske close after his loss to Eubank, he also took Steve Collins close in two fights that could have gone either way, gave Calzaghe his toughest ever fight til Hopkins with 2-3 weeks notice and then took Carl Thompson exceedingly close at CW (was leading on the cards before it was stopped) How do you give Kessler the nod against him when the best win on Kesslers career card is an unproven Andrade?
Eubank doesnt have the feet of Joe Calzaghe or the speed of Joe Calzaghe. These are the two things you need , to be able to beat an expert standup euro type fighter with one of the best jabs around. You need elite movement and speed to beat Kessler. And it doesnt hrt either if youre southpaw.
You forget that Kessler has great anticipation and therefore rarely gets hit flush. Furthermore he has good precision and ring generalship and all but Calzaghe has been thoroughly outboxed.
You're talking Kessler up as some unstoppable fortress of an opponent, he hasn't done the things he needs to do to prove he's as talented as you think he is. You're not giving Eubank any credit, a guy who was an established boxer puncher with one hell of a lot of power and an ability to take it late into fights. Eubank had the meanest overhand right out, tell me how a guy with limited head movement, a tendancy to move straight back and a guy who doesn't tuck his chin is going to avoid it for 12 rounds when much more proven boxers (Benn) couldn't?
