I'll be honest, i only saw him fight once against Calzaghe. And outside of two fights in Wales, all of his fights have been in Denmark. For those of you that are all over this guy, what makes him so good? I've heard people say that Kessler is a class above guys like Taylor and Pavlik and i'm saying, "What the fu*k!" So for those of you people so high on Kessler, explain yourself please.
Well, Kessler wouldn't even have to be an A fighter to be a class above C+ rubbish in Taylor and Pavlik, so that in and of itself isn't exactly high praise. But he is A-level. Why don't you watch his fights and see for yourself? :yep
Watch just the highligts of the Andrade fight.. Great footwork, defense, one-two of brilliance, great ring generalship, managing distance, good power (not killer-power, but good power), good hand speed (not Ali, but fast hands).
How is Taylor a C class fighter if he is hanging in there with P4P guys? Forget about the fact that JT won both fights against Hopkins. Even if he lost one or both, they were still competitive. He also fought Winky hard to a draw. C class fighters don't do that. And JT really refined his game in his last fight with Pavlik. JT's got A level talent. And Pavlik is not the most talented boxer out there. But he's got an incredible work rate, granite chin, power in both hands, and an incredible stamina. That counts for a lot in this sport. He just wears you down.
He does have a granite chin. Are you questioning his chin after the JT KD? I hope not. The guy got hit by a huge MW with power with flush shots. And he didn't even really get KD. It was more like a tree being chopped down. It took all JT had just to get him down. Pavlik sort of fell forward. He wasn't taken down by the punches. And by the end of the round, he had his legs under him. And by the start of the next round, he was already coming forward.
To me... its one of those things where you only need to see him to see that hes good. Do you know what i mean? i can see him punch and tell hes punching very fast, i can look at his precision and tell hes a precise puncher, i can see that he punches well, has a decent defence, ect... When you see his fight against JC, you can see how good of a fight it is at first... because kessler is that good. Imo.... he would own taylor. Imo, taylor doesnt have the speed to catch him well, the power to hurt him, the activity to fustrate him, the defence to dodge his punches, nor the size to trouble him. Kessler is bigger, as powerful imo, faster, better defence, and a better boxer... i dont need a resume to see that, and where normally a fighter that looks good against lesser opponents, but fall apart against the elite, clearly isnt the case with kessler.... as he gave JC one of his best fights... but is clearly not as good a fighter as JC, though imo more talented.
Why is Taylor always called a "huge" middleweight with great "power" when it comes to discussing the knockdown? Huge or not, he ain't got much power. Who the **** did he ever knock out? Why the hell didn't he knockout Spinks or Ouma, for a "huge" middleweight with a lot of power it should have been a given? Kessler is a class above both of them. I despair sometimes
Again, watch the man's fights. If you want to generously call Taylor and Pavlik B-level fighters, then you'd need to invent a new letter of the alphabet because Kessler is IMO two full levels above both. And of course that creates the problem of where to put Calzaghe - would he be Newletter+ or a 2nd new letter entirely? (very tough call) There is one round in particular, can't recall which, against Mundine where Kessler showed what an absolute beast he can be, and is the best I've seen him look. And I've never seen him look anything less than great, even in defeat.
what the **** can you say to that? nah, JT didn't really get KO'd later in the fight. he just blacked out due to low sugar levels a millisecond before pavlik smashed him in the face.
I think you took what i said too literally. Of course he was KD. But the way he was KD is what i'm talking about. It wasn't one shot that did him in. It was an accumulation of punches and even after that, he didn't just go down immediately. It was really like a tree being chopped down. He didn't just fall after a shot. It was as if JT had to physically push/force Pavlik down because a shot wasn't going to do it. This probably doesn't make sense to you.
