Kessler's become RIDICULOUSLY overrated by the Calzaghe fanboys of ESB. He's good, but he is YET to show or prove he deserves to be mentioned with better fighters. He's not on par YET with the likes of: Mayweather De La hoya Mosley Haye W. Klitchsko Rahman Valuev Hatton Hopkins Tarver Jones Toney Pacqiauo Marquez (either of them) Trinidad.... Do I need to continue? Let the man forge his legacy rather then have cheerleaders try to make it for him.
:yikes These aren't the only fighters you listed that Kessler is better than, but these are the most outright shocking for you to say he is not on par with... RAHMAN? HATTON? TARVER? atsch That's a huge insult, you're basically calling him ****. Saying he isn't on par with Rahman literally contradicts your assertion that he is "good".
Kessler is a very good (not great) fighter. He has great technique. A great Jab. Good workrate. Good power. A good chin. I gotta say tho...I am not high on him at all. I think he is a very good fighter dont get me wrong...but he has become severely overrated from A LOSS!!! As many strengths as he has, he has just as many weaknesses. He is slow and flatfooted (his footwork is ordinary at best). He has bad timing (tho his great technique and workrate make up for this). He lacks a "plan B" so to say (more on the ring intellegence/ring generalship side). He falls in love with the same combo over and over again (a good/great counter puncher would be POISON for this guy). His handspeed is decent at best as well. Like a said...a very good fighter....but the people building him up as the next big thing at SMW are insane....I just dont see it.
I think he was saying that all three of them have accomplished much more at this point in their careers...I dont think anyone will tell ya that Rahman is better than Kessler.
They've ALL accomplished more then Kessler have they not? And no, I am NOT syaing he's ****. He's a hella good boxer. You are overrating him so badley so you think that's what is being said. Careful intentionbutt...that's the first sign of nuthuggery.
Legacy-obsessed fans... :verysad I have little in common with the herd. I literally don't care at all about accomplishment...I care about displays of talent and heart, both of which Mikkel has. Don't get me wrong, performing well against great opposition is ideal for judging a competitor's qualities, but in lieu of that I'll always give the benefit of the dount to those who perform well against good opposition, over those who perform just okay against famous/marquee but just okay (be it due to physical or ring age, injury, whatever) opposition (Taylor over Hopkins, Tarver over Jones...). Also, while I acknowledge that Joe Calzaghe and maybe half a dozen or so other active fighters are clearly all-around superior h2h, he also happens to be the exact style of fighter that I like the most - highly technical, and offense-first.
Nothing wrong with judging a fighter by his accomplishments. I think ignoring them outright is a worse offence. Accomplishments are a better measuring device then just looking at someone's ability or skill vs. lesser fighters and assuming he keeps that against the best. Otherwise you may as well add JCC jr to your P4P list. He looks LIKE A LEGEND IN THE MAKING againt his opp.
Those one-twos were not counterpunches...they were one-twos. And as I said, his technique (the way in which he throws those one-twos) is fantastic...which is what originally bothered Calzaghe. But later into the fight, as Joe started to time him, those one-twos became less and less effective. This was a product of his lack of timing (being unable to hit JOE CALZAGHE easily...who aint ever gonna be mistaken for Pernell Whitaker) and him falling in love with the same combo....which is ok when its working, but can be your worst enemy vs a great counter puncher or a fighter with great timing (as well as Joe's adaptability...which you pointed out). It also had to do with Joe's ability to take his opponent out of their game and frustrate them...but go watch the fight again, you will see what I mean (Ive watched it 4 times and saw the same thing everytime). The regulars on here will tell ya...I was saying these things BEFORE the Calzaghe fight.
My what list? :yep I see, you don't realize that I abstain from any discussion of the deeply flawed and outmoded p4p system. Well, I do. :good And Julio actually looks pretty average against his far below-average dance partners. Kessler has consistently dominated solid opposition, as has been pointed out, hardly ever losing a round.
