Almost exactly 40 years ago, Colin Jones and Milton McCrory met for the vacant WBC welterweight title. Jones was used to conceding early rounds and wearing down his opponents. McCrory was like the second coming of Thomas Hearns - he had the same trainer and was at the same gym. Who do you think should have won this fight, or was a draw a fair result? Colin may have been a tad lucky to get the draw in the first one but I thought he definitely should have got the decision in the rematch. Both unforgettable fights.
I thought it was the other way round, but just for you, here's a link to the rematch: This content is protected
I remember watching Jones get sliced and diced by Donald Curry, it reminded me a lot of Hagler vs Minter, it just lasted a little longer.
I thought that Colin was quite lucky as I feel that McCrory had done just enough to win in the first fight, but I was still pleased with that result as it gave Jones the chance of another shot. McCrory did that little bit more in the second bout. Both were good fights. If only Colin had been that little bit busier in the early stages of the first go.
I believe I had that one a draw, with it being very split into halves. McCrory dominating early, Jones making his run late. Seemed very fair to me.
I think I'd rather have been in the ring than in a caravan in mid Wales. But maybe the scenery was nice.
