Mcrory of late 1985 meets Breland of early 1990 how do you see it going?

This one is interesting because neither ever fought anyone like this. They were more alike than dissimilar though I think McCrory might have had a bit more power and a better body attack, and a better hook. All other things being roughly equal, I gotta go with Milton on points here.

Breland used to do more than well with him in sparring in 83

Yes - I went back and forth on this one myself. It's a real pick'em, in my opinion.

The point in time makes it interesting, as well. In '85, McCrory was about to meet his nemesis in the form of Curry's left hook. Breland would, in 1990, also be flattened by a desperate Davis right.

But, my recollection sees Breland as the busier fighter, who steadily applied pressure, while McCrory could be a bit pedestrian. Both could go for the KO, as they each had respectable power.

In the end, I'd probably wager on Breland taking a decision, if I was forced to bet on it.

Breland actually dropped McCroy in sparring.

I believe these guys would swap wins over a series as it's just that close. Both good fighters with neither really taking off. Both tall and long with good jabs and nice right hands. Both had almost identical records and KO ratio's. Close fight every time IMO.

Breland was just better imo. More fragile, but better in most other facets.

    Breland by UD.

I think Breland drops him once or twice — maybe a flash knockdown or two even — and that’s the difference in a competitive UD win.

Oooh, good fight. Such a hard one to pick with neither man having an obvious advantage. Both had fine basics.
Breland, I feel, has the edge in power. He could really crack with his right hand although he was never the Wrecking machine in the pro's as his amateur reputation suggests.
To counter that, McCrory was very brave. Most Fighters Colin Jones hit on the chin folded. Milton almost did in both their fights but pure heart pulled him through.
I think Milton just might want it more, might be more prepared to go to the trenches and stay there and tough out a tight decision.
Either way, it would be a memorable fight.

Breland had some notable weaknesses (chin, defense, stamina), but I don't see McCrory as having the style to exploit them. He was neither a big puncher nor a high-workrate fighter likely to test Breland's endurance. I expect Breland to get the better of more exchanges, and he's the one more likely to score a KD/KO as well.

That era 85-90 at 147 lbs is notoriously difficult to predict.

A guy could be a world beater for 1-2 fights than get beaten outside and inside the ring.

Johnny Bumphus looked great v Starling than barely a year later looked a zombie vs honeyghan.Curry we know about.Breland got stopped the 2 times he built good momentum....so mcrorys 6 defences seem a relative oasis of calm...I see it like others...breland has the slight edge in power and skills...mcrory the greater equanimity and ability to dig deep,adapt.....I think Milton wins over 15 .

Two tall and rangy welters with good power. Both with average chins and relatively short primes. I honestly don’t know who wins although I will say Breland has the better win over Loyd Honeyghan
