Minimum for a Weight Class

With the bridgerweight class existing in the WBC, could Wilder be the HW champ if he drops back down to his usual weight? He was usually below BW Wright limit

Yes, if he’s fighting for the heavyweight title and wins, he is the champion, regardless of whether he weighed in below the bridgerweight limit or not. He could even weigh in below the cruiserweight limit if he wanted to.

Technically there is no minimum, other than the fact that the fight still has to be sanctioned. If someone that weighed like 150 lbs decided they wanted to challenge for the heavyweight title, it just wouldn’t get sanctioned by the commissions.

There is a minimum limit for amateurs and the WBO, but in reality the WBO would waive the limit if a case where it would be appropriate to do so came around.

 

To give you an example, when Pacquiao fought for the junior middleweight title, he weighed under the welterweight limit.

 

minimum weight limit is nonsense, boxers just go to the weight in with weights in their pokets and that's all. It wouldnt be the first time.

 

Didn't think there was, but i never read about a fighter fighting in a weight class below without it being a catchweight
