Ikpitan Okoebor, wow , yes i remember him and the loss to Crabtree like it was yesterday, he was big news as a puncher prospect... I was asked to work his corner in the 1990's against a club fighter named Sammy Adkins in Vegas.. He was a capable guy and i think his last credible win was in 2000 when he got up off the floor to KO 7 footer Marselles Brown.. after that win he lost a straight lump of fights including one to Jameel McCline and even to Chauncey Welliver who completely over reacted to his win like he had just battered King Kong for a world title.. Crabtrees win was indeed a pretty handy upset , I recall Crabtree being one of the first men to fight Mike Moorer when he gained 20 pounds to become a heavyweight.. Moorer only landed about 20 shots on Bobby , but they were so solid and brutal that i remember Bobbys face being a mass of bumps and cuts.. Herbie Hide sparked Ipitain out in Vegas in training for Bowe.. the press were astonished at Hides power , Ipitan looked so shocked when Hide first hit him , like Herbie pulled out a hidden jackhammer or something.....

Yeah, Hide had/has terrifying power. I can't think of a handful of cruisers who hit harder then him.

I am so glad Herbie has managed to grab himself a slice of the cruiserweight picture , and is due to box a final eliminator in Russia very soon, he could be a beltholder sooner than we think..

Actually, to clarify, Crabtree won a very, very dubious decision over Keene in his hometown, not a late round knockout. Keene was robbed in that fight. The scoring went 120-108 Keene, and 119-111. 116-115 Crabtree.

i saw a fight between 2 feather or bantams on the cotto-marg under card

1 was a huge knockout artist and a WBC international titleist or something and was supposed to be the next big thing and was fighting a fighter unheard of outside of columbia ( i think he was unbeaten) but it turned out this guy had solid technical skills and outboxed this prospect

    i think his name was

    chin something

    chinnchila or something

also quite well known but wont be in a few years

    haye vs carl thompson
    maccarinelli vs lee swaby
    khan vs breidess presscott

    Thompson/Piper was funny

Curry/McCallum was also a laugh, everyone but the Cobra saw that punch coming!

Cortez showing some balls in making sure Benn beat Galvano in Italy (fight one)

Terry Lawless on the verge of topping himself as both his money makers wnt down to upsets on the same bill (Kaylor against Buster Drayton; Bomber Bruno against Bonecrusher).

Matthew Hilton lost a decision to Robert Hines in 1988.

Hard hitting Hilton had made his mark with a thrilling decision over Buster Drayton a year earlier and looked destined to become a big star. However after losing to Hines he was never able to get his career back on track and beset by problems he faded away over the next few years.

    Madison Square Garden,,,,,February 1979

    David Capo over Leo Randolph

Leo was coming in to New York City to showcase his talent.
Undefeated at 8-0-0, Leo was looking to pad his record against an unknown local kid.
The 1976 U.S Olympic Gold Medal Winner got out-slicked by the local fighter in an 8-rounder.

There were some great fights and minor upsets among a group of lightweights in the 80's. Rockin' Robin Blake at one stage upset Ruben Munoz Jr. and Tony Baltazar then Tyrone "The Butterfly" Crawley upset him in turn. Charlie Choo Choo Brown and Harry Arroyo were in there somewhere as well. Jimmy Paul. There was some great little tussles going on.
