Minter v Eubank

Eubank would stop Minter on TKO in the late rounds.

 

Minter would outbox and outpoint chris eubank just like ray close, malinga and few other WBO chalengers really did during eubanks 10 fights in ten month deal with sky TV only they did not get the decision. Minter had the undisputed title, could box well and was a southpaw.

 

Yeah, pretty much this. Eubank, as tough, as they come, but skill level massively overated. Minter, gets through some rough moments, but ultimately outboxes him.

 

I thnk Eubank was a bit too smooth and strong a counterpuncher on the backfoot or at ring-centre for Minter.

Minter could certainly beat a Eubank short of top-form, but he's not really the type of fighter that would pose blatant stylistic issues for Eubank.Minter was better against steady aggressive fighters he could matador, or when he had to come forward; fighters he could hurt and bully.

the slicker well schooled mobile types that could match or exceed him for overall speed\reflexes could take advantage of his negligence on defence and brawling mentality(which was often at odds with his straight punching style)

Of course, if Minter can get him to lead...

 

Eubank would eventually bust Minter up and stop him in the championship rounds I think. The 160lbs version of Eubank was a lot more positive than the 168lber.

minter fell apart against marvin hagler, but that is no disgrace. alan handled vito easier than hagler ever did - minter was a good pure boxer. eubank had trouble with those.

 

I don't remember Eubank having any problems with Malinga or Close - he was almost at 5% effort and bagging the rounds.

He'd beat Alan on cuts in four to seven rounds.

 

He did not win those fights.

ebanks performances in many defences of the wbo strap against unrated part time fighters were not worthy of undisputed title calibre contenders.

 

I thought Eubank beat Malinga and Close(first bout)clearly.

2nd close fight he did indeed suck, though it was very hard to score, more non-fight than robbery as Close rarely managed to crack his defence and Eubank barely threw anything.

It was the schommer and Amaral fights that were the genuinely controversial ones, during the one fight a month world tour thing.Ironically, probably among the very worst fighters he defended against.eubank should have been fighting at 175 by then imo.

 

I watched the Close fights at the time, I didn't score fights back then but I remember it was boring. Most people have Close winning at least 1 of them from what I remember, it was widely considered a robbery on some thread long ago, someone went off on a rant blaming Eubank and the robbery for Ray Closes life going down the toilet

I watched and scored every Eubank defence a couple of years ago.Brutal at times.


Close definitely got a gift draw in the first fight.Eubank was sharp that night, though he still coasted at times, making it closer than it should have been.

 

Would you say they must have been referring to the second fight, how would you have that on a 10 point must? Maybe they were just Irish lads, I forget now

 

Well both were controversial.Could be either really.

Close has a better call for being hard done by in the rematch, but looking back through my cards in scorecard thread i had it 8-4 Eubank, same as the first fight.It was much tougher to score though.I wouldn't argue too much if someone thought Close had edged it by a point or so on workrate.

Incidentally i think from the 70s Brit middle crop, Kevin Finnegan and Bunny Sterling would match up better with Eubank than Minter.I can see why some posters would pick Minter though, he's a better fighter than someone like Close in every respect and could take a similar approach with more success.Either by taking it to Eubank like Close did in the first bout, or outside jabbing like the 2nd.
