Minto TKOs Cameron in six

Heavyweight Brian “The Beast” Minto (39-7, 25 KOs) upset Shane “Mountain Warrior” Cameron (29-4, 22 KOs) winning by sixth round TKO on Saturday night at the Trust Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. As expected, both fighters went right at each other with Minto having the upper hand. Cameron was cut over the left eye by a punch. Minto was deducted points in rounds four and five, but he punished Cameron in round six and Cameron stayed on his stool after the round. Minto claimed the vacant WBO Oriental heavyweight title.

IS THIS MINTO'S BIGGEST WIN?! CAMERON TAKES A HUGE STEP BACK..

I tried watching this fight What I was able to see was a good tempo, high action fight. Minto seemed to have the better of the action for most of the fight. He was quicker and sharper with his punches, landed the heavier blows, and was not above using his elbows strategically (though postfight he claimed those to be accidental byproduct of close infighting). Cameron was coming off a layoff of ove.r a year, not sure how much that might have affected him in this fight, but it certainly contrasted sharply to Minto's having fought two 3-round Prizefighter Tournament fights in London only 1 month ago. Minto now claims the WBO Oriental heavyweight title, and apparently is in line to return to New Zealand in March to face Joseph Parker, plus he apparently was promised at least one more fight in New Zealand in June or so.

Wow. I must say even though Cameron is vulnerable to aggressive punchers and Minto always gives 110% and is a tank, I expected this would go the other way due to Cameron's size, strength and relative skill.

Incidentally, why did this occur at heavyweight? Cameron seemed to have been steadfast continuing on at cruiser despite the quick jaunt back up in weight to retire Barrett, and looked comfortable and performed well enough making the limit against Green. :huh Minto himself was always best fit with the 200 cap as well, and while his recent comeback these last couple of years has been spent at heavy it never seemed like he couldn't still make cruiser if he tried.

    Cheers.

I wonder how differently it might have gone if they were both in the one-nineties.

Maybe no different. Who knows. :conf

Cameron was a skeleton at cruiser.

May have looked that way but you really think his punch resistance was better on the unlimited side of the threshold?

Below it he went 12 with Green. Above it he was stopped in half that distance by Minto.

    :think

Does Minto at heavy crack much harder than Green at cruiser (or LHW, or Dannyweight) - or harder, period?

cameron looked farking horrible at cruiser and struggled with pretty much everyone he faced at this weight his best fight weight is around 215 to 220 pounds and losing that 15 to 20 pounds killed him . green paid him more money to come in at like 89 kg so about 3 pound under the 200 cruiser limit . he looked average against daniel amann and dom vea and also was not able to put mcracken away . he is in a position where at 215 - 220 he is a small heavy but at 200 he just struggles too much with the weight . im my opinion boxing weight divisions are out dated i mean its a sport thats been around a long time and in that time people have grown and become bigger . look at it like this our middleweight division is 72. 5 kg i dont have a single male friend that weighs under 80 kg and when i look around at the average bloke i would say there is very , very few of them that weigh 72. 5 which is supposed to be middleweight . i just think that with the way people are getting bigger that maybe we need to raise the weight of where heavyweight starts , cruiser ends at 90.6 and after that you are a heavyweight . i was at the put yesterday and there was 8 of us there and i asked my mates who are about the average blokes their weights and 82 kg was the lightest and 107 the heaviest so they were all between 82 and 107 meaning they were all between cruiser and heavy . i dont know but i just thing our divisions are out dated . our middle is 72.5 and ufc is about 84 kg .
