I can say this might be the most important fight to me in the history of not just UFC but the entire sport of MMA. If Lesnar dominates to me it takes away credibility from the sport being that a former pro wrestler with only a couple of years experience (yeah I know he was a former college wrestler) and 1 victory can become "the heavyweight champion". The true fans of the skill involved in combat sports will want Mir to win. Please dont reply with stupid comments
Mir looks better now then ever hes confident,in good shape,he already owns a win over Lesnar and has dramatically improved his standup. No way Lesnar can compete with him on the ground thats fact and on the feet im not sure he can outstrike Mir he will need to depend on his heavy right hand to get a knockout. As for credibilty na it dont take much away from the sport. Lesnar is an elite level athlete he came into MMA with a hard work ethic and world class wrestling ability which only makes his other stuff just evolve at a rapid pace he does look more improved everytime out. Sucks he got the title shot at 2-1 but he proved hes no joke. It doesnt matter to me that he wrestled in the WWE thats money right there and damn good money at that. It just so happened to be his job before fighting all fighters had a job before fighting well atleast most do it doesnt matter what it is.
So Lesnar being "no joke" means knocking out a 44 yr old man that you outweigh by about 40 pounds? In mma there is more ways to beat your opponent than in boxing (knees, dirty boxing is legal, wrestling, taking someone down). And if you have such a huge size advantage all of those methods are really in your favor.
Dont make excuses ok Randy Couture is my favorite fighter and he got beat because Lesnar was better him. That 44 year old was better then he had ever been and coming off 2 of his most impressive wins and has beat many guys including those 2 Gonzaga and Sylvia that where larger then him.
Randy was bigger in his fights with sylvia and gonzaga for some reason in his fight with Lesnar he appeared much smaller..perhaps he was trying to get more speed..he seemed like he thought he could be Lesnar boxing
This fight excites me. If Lesnar wins, it doesn't hurt MMA. It just shows that Lesnar is extremely talented with a great amateur background. I think they are loads of WWE fighters who could succeed. The WWE finds talented guys who played college football and amateur wrestling. These guys are strong, fast and powerful. Look at the Rock or Kurt Angle. Sure they are gimmicks but they are physically talented. They just never got into real fighting.
It takes no credibility away from the sport. No more than Valuev taking away credibility away from boxing. It shows that size and strength can be used to an advantage nothing more. Lesnar is better than Couture? While Couture was literally manhandling Lesnar the whole time until one punch?
Lesnar is an amazing ATHLETE. Does it take credibility away from the NFL that Lesnar almost made the Vikings after not playing ANY football since high school? WWE was a job. I don't see why everyone is so hung up about it.
Manhandling ? He was fighting a close fight thats it. Couture probablly lost the 1st round that Lesnar takedown probablly earned it for him then go to the 2nd where Lesnar hit him with a couple of big shots well before the right hand KO. It was a pretty darn even fight.
The UFC has given Lesnar every chance of being the UFC champ. Lesnar has not dominated the sport, but if he does and porves he is a great champion, it has nothing to do with the sport, it has more to do with a champion being worthy.
Randy Couture is one of the most overrated UFC/MMA fighters of alltime. And Lesnar should beat Mir, in fact I think he will beat him.
The difference is Valuev legitimately sucks. Lesnar is a UFC champion and has been in the sport of MMA for like 2 years. And Valuev has been boxing for 2 decades.
