I have been a big fan of Miranda. Win or lose I liked the guy and thought he showed up to fight. That is until I read this:

"If I win this fight, in three or four months I should be fighting for a championship and I would like to be registered as one of the champions of Puerto Rico because it is not where one is born, but what your heart feels, and I am Puerto Rican. In all of my fights I have the flag of Puerto Rico and I want to be the 59th champion of this country."

I have no problems if he loves PR so much but damn..to basically renounce the country you were born in? His fanbase in largely in Hollywood, Florida and its probably 90% Colombian. Does he think they will support him once they read how he dissed the country he was born in?

Good luck getting love in a country that is not yours Edison. You now have one less fan.

    What the ****?

    What a dick.

Lost whatever respect I had left for the guy.

What the hell does he have to do with Puerto Rico?

What a ****ing ******. it doesn't really matter anyway cause there's no chance he's winning a world title. (Queue that Pantera2000 poster to tell us all Edison is ready to shake up the world:roll:)

    What a ****ing idiot.

Had he any sense, he would have just called Puerto Rico his adopted home, and said he is going to be carrying both flags into the ring. That would have been much smarter and expanded his fan base.

why does it matter. If he feels that puerto rico is his home so be it. He may have good reason not to love Columbia. He is an immigrant to that country and loves it nothing wrong with that. But he shows love to Columbia he wears their flag on his trunks as well.

It doesn't matter...is not a big deal. He is ****ing himself because his fanbase in Florida is largely Colombian. You can love your adopted country but you don't forget your roots. And he doesn't wear the Colombian flag anymore. As a Colombian-American I was upset about his comment. We take country pride very serious. At the end of the day he is doing himself more harm than good.:patsch

I never really like Miranda anyway. He was another hype job with a chiseled physique and a big punch. He's crude and limited and I hope Ward schools him. Him turning his back on his country like that isn't the least bit surprising.

Funny thing is even though I knew all of this, I still had love for the guy. I am one of those fans who never abandon their fighters. But this is a slap in the face to all Colombian fans who follow him. You can fight out of a country but you don't forget your roots. I admire guys like Joshua Clottey for this reason..besides being a top Welterweight.

Yeah straight ***** move by Miranda for turning his back on his people like that. Plenty fighters fight out of not their native country but still show love for their native country.
