I think, among other things, this is the way for him to gauge himself against Kelly Pavlik. So, stepping out of his weight class he doesn't risk his title to do it. But, I also believe AA thinks he will win this. He faces a better conditioned Miranda at 166 though. Plus, this gets him some name recognition for a bout with Pavlik. So, little downside from his perspective.
The weight issue wont make up for Miranda's overall lack of skill. The first fight was close because of the broken jaw.AA will be a different fighter when he is not in defensive mode(trying to preserve his chin)
If he fights like in his last fight, I don't know. A flurry at the end of the round to wow the fans and influence the judges may not work outside of Germany. I certainly hope he comes with a different game plan.
Lorenzo-Marquez IBF eliminator! Undefeated IBF #4 ranked middleweight contender Giovanni Lorenzo has accepted an offer to challenge former world champion and current IBF #12 ranked contender Raul Marquez in a 12 round IBF "voluntary eliminator" on June 21, it was announced by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. The bout will serve as the co-feature to the rematch between IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham and Edison Miranda. Both bouts will be broadcast live on Showtime beginning at 9pm ET / PT. The winner of the Lorenzo-Marquez bout will be the mandatory contender for the IBF middleweight title and will fight for the title in his next bout. "I am very excited about this opportunity to showcase my skills on Showtime," said Lorenzo (26-0, 18 KOs), who has stopped his last eight opponents. "The exposure that both Abraham and I will get from June 21 will make our upcoming championship showdown that much more appealing to fight fans worldwide. It is an honor to fight Raul Marquez. He is a skilled and durable fighter who has had a great career. However, I've waited a long time for this opportunity and I intend to capitalize on it." The site will be announced shortly.
Uh-oh! According to someones earlier post you don't have a contract if the venue isn't listed in it. :bart
I'm happy to see a Miranda/Abraham rematch. I'm also happy to see that Lorenzo will have to tested before he gets a title shot. None of his last 6 opponents are rated in the top 100, and they had 55 losses between them. Boo
Yep -- Ya gotta give AA his props for taking this fight. The danger is that if Pantera beats him, will anyone care about Pavlik/Abraham? Boo
Abraham seems to be quite confident - nobody forces him to go up in weight, to go to Florida (which is worse then Germany for hometown decisions). What we know for sure - he is not and was not scared.
I've said it before. Posters here had me believing he was hiding in Germany after his last fight with Miranda. Then we started hearing noise he wanted to come to the states and challange Pavlik. Then he wants to get back in with a guy that broke his jaw! Nothing but props at this point.
