I hate to discuss anything even remotely related to racism on ESB, but since you brought it up Sebastien. Are you a reversed coconut, or is that coincidal?

excuse my ignorance, but what is a coconut?

All I said about racism is that all things held equal, most Quebec fans will cheer for the white guy, moreover, most of them don't like black fighters that act too confident... that's something Jean Pascal will have to learn.

Personnally, my favorite fighters are Bernard, Floyd, Toney, etc. I like slick counter punchers. So I tend to get in arguments with locals who can't seem to see skills and let their heart (and covert racism sometimes I fear) take over.

A coconut; Brown on this outside, white on the inside. Reverse this then.

Is it now Quebec? Thought it was Montreal. However, you are still saying that these people rooted due to color of white skin, and not because they liked the boxers regardless of color.

Seemingly in reference to your own postings you took great pleasure in seeing that the colored boxers won vs white boxers. This could be a coincidence, but if not - are you any better then?

I am not calling you a racist, but often people using the racist aspect of others are quite often themselves - racists.

Since you have stated that you, yourself, are both white and from Montreal - doesn't that make you some sort of a hypocrite? Just because you go against the stream, doesn't free you of prejudice.

I could be wrong - but I am just reading what you have been saying in this thread.

Sebastien gimme your thoughts on this :
Let's say Lucian Bute was a black boxer with the same charisma and personality.

Let's also say Jean Pascal was a white boxer with the same kind of arrogance / over confidence as of now.

Who would the people prefer ?

The one thing that's a given in MOntreal is that people appreciate the hard working and humble guys !

If you have that...black,white, yellow or purple, you're the man !!

Mayweather comes out pretty often when you talk of "racism" in Montreal. What if people just don't like the guy? We would not be the only ones in North America! More, Gatti comes from Montreal. Don't you consider it normal to encourage him against Mayweather? Anyway, many people like me, a white man, like Alcine and Ngoudjo a lot. People even started to like Alcine after he demolished Ouellet, a white man from Quebec. Sorry for you stupid theories.

Took great pleasure in the fact that in each case the display of skills proved my point.

I am a fan of many white fighters, e.g. cheered for Pavlik vs. Taylor, I like how Pavlik generates power, I think he's got real nice technique, I also like JMM a lot.

Just a fan of the art of boxing. I'll like a pressure fighter that does his thing well, ala JC Chavez, Duran, or even Cotto recently.

I think a lot of people in Quebec (province, actually I think Montreal is less racist than the rest of the province) tend to root against the black fighter, especially if he's cocky ala Mayweather.

    Finally, an interesting question...

Might be something else than race, though I am sure if the guy is white, french speaking he'll be favored over the "black Bute". To be honest, that they hate Mayweather doesn't shock me too much. But Lennox Lewis I didn't understand, especially given that the people I argued with at the time had never heard of Klitschko.

Who said I was an Abraham fan?

I abhor that crappy, shallow MW division that everyone thinks so much of.

You dumb **** you said it yourself, mtl ppl like the working class type of guy such as Pavlik (and Hatton btw)

And the humble Baldomir was the underdog against the cocky and trash talker Mayweather. This aint no black and white thing. For example, i was at cage aux sports for Cotto-Mosley and except for a table of latinos, ppl were cheering for Shane.
