Well, this is what people at the gym reported seeing. He hasn't made that weight in years so we don't know what kind of wall he may have hit. His reaction may have been atypical but it is what is being reported. There have certainly been lesser fighters that looked better against Ward than Dawson did.

I'm sure there's truth to the events. He most def. got KDd during sparring if one of the trainers has been quoted.
However, it could've been more to poor training/boxing neglect.
One does not train anywhere close to the weight limit almost two weeks out.
For him to be training below 174 would mean he was planning on dehydrating down to 160 or lower instead of 168. That's what doesn't make sense to me.
He would realistically only be under 174 a day or two before the fight during dehydration process. And I doubt anyone would spar at that point and that dry.

To me it seemed more a case of mental breakdown. Much how he gave up when Pascal was chasing him all over the ring without countering or letting his hands go.
Ward put him in a place where he had to be very active in order to land something. He never had time to think and adjust.

I'm in the boat that Dawson was definitely drained....and I like Ward. I would expect Ward to beat Dawson handily at 175. However, there's just too much that isn't quite right. Dawson never had a great chin but he never went down like that against bigger punchers than Ward. And then you heard rumblings of getting clocked by Miranda and getting owned in sparring by guys who no ones knows about...

Furthermore, what I'm surprised that NO ONE is mentioning is that Dawson had a round where he didn't land a single punch and only landed 29 punchers per compubox (less than 3 a round). If I'm not mistaken, the only other full 3 minute round that was monitored by compubox that had a fighter NOT land a single punch was Vinnie Paz....against Roy Jones Jr. in about as epic of a mismatch on paper(and in the ring) that you could get. No offense to Andre Ward...he's not Roy Jones, and no offense to Vinnie Paz, Chad Dawson as a LHW is better than a bloated Vinnie Paz.

I still have no idea why Chad wanted to go take on the 168lb king without even testing the waters there.

Your really over analyzing this **** because you don't want to admit Dawson was drained. Dawson was getting his ass kicked in sparring by miranda & llionell thompson. It is what it is when your drained you cant take a punch. Ward would win @ 175 definitely, but Dawson would put up a more competitive fight than the bull**** we saw on saturday

He was an absolute moron for coming out after the BHop fight and saying he would go down.

    160! Dont be stupid!

If he was training under 174 that would be because he has to cut to get to 175 and was having to absolutely wring himself dry to get to 168. You have never had to make a weight eh? I used to box amateur and fought at my natural weight but even then, maintaining that was difficult. For someone who has to cut to get to 175 to have to lose a further 7lbs and be competative is ridiculous. He may well have made the weight easy but so can a prisoner of war, doesnt mean to say they are going to be able to produce a world class athletic performance. Just look at De La Hoya v Pacquiao, he was just a punch bag. Dawson was knocked all over the place but even still Ward wasnt good enough to put him away. Chad had to quit for Ward to get the win.
