Local fighter Adeyemi Daniel Fadina Martínez def. Nicaraguan globe-trotting round-goer José Inés Hernández Martínez by unanimous shutout, with scores of 60-53 x3 in a lightweight contest.

On the card (and broadcast) opener, Juan YinYan def. Edwin Barrera of Honduras in a 4-rounder at featherweight, by scores of 40-36, 39-37, and 40-37.

 

Álvaro Rodríguez Salcedo vs. David Sánchez Arias II, 10 rounds @ super bantamweight

 

This is for the Spanish national 122lb title, fourth defense of "Ardi" Rodríguez Salcedo. He defeated "Maravillita" Sánchez Arias for the vacant belt via UD in March of 2017.

 

Round 1

Rodríguez Salcedo is jabbing the belt line of Maravillita, using his length to heel-toe around the ring in a comfortable lateral stroll while keeping the challenger at his jab's end. Maravillita tries dashing in with a double slashing hook at the chest but Rodríguez Salcedo is able to hop away, swerve off the ropes, and resume jabbing from outside to keep Maravillita honest. Wild line drive rights by Maravillita diving in, fended off with a 1-2 by Rodríguez Salcedo. Maravillita jumps at him once more, and is countered with a flurry pinning him against the ropes, and then hit with a rabbit punch, about which he lodges a complaint with the ref.

Round 2

Rodríguez Salcedo is walking Maravillita down, flicking jabs out from his chest to his opponent's while bent slightly forward, keeping his neck turned down to a side and making it hard for Maravillita to properly take aim with his anti-aircraft lead rights. Rodríguez Salcedo down, slip. Some kamikaze attacks by Maravillita, double jabbing up high and then attempting either an overhand right or a big window-jimmying left uppercut on the inside, but Rodríguez Salcedo is able to roll with everything, caught on his crossed arms, then counter with looping rights landing either wholly on the side or partially on the back of Maravillita's head.

Round 3

Maravillita down, slip. Canvas would appear to be wet, at least in that one corner. Rodríguez Salcedo is carrying both hands low, baiting Maravillita, then pulling the line up like a fisherman to flick out jabs into the midsection. Quick sneaky gavel right hands by Rodríguez Salcedo, banging atop the hairline before left hooks are plugged into the rib cage. A well-timed jab drops Maravillita. Flash knockdown, he argues with the ref about receiving a count but it was plain as day legit, even though he isn't hurt. Rodríguez Salcedo gains confidence from the incident, rushing Maravillita, swarming and dropping his right arm like a club against Maravillita's crown, and smacking up his starboard cheek with rapid hooks.

Rodríguez Salcedo is chasing Maravillita down, slouching forth, buttocks stuck out to his aft, forehead nudging an inch past his lead toe, baiting Maravillita with both arms down and then either ducking to hammer the body with uppercuts or feeding in a straight counter jab and then sidestepping with a pimp-slap open-gloved hook. Rodríguez Salcedo just wearing Maravillita down with volume, still working to score another knockdown or net the stoppage but seeming to realize his own innate lack of single-punch kayo power to get the job done. Maravillita just breaking into spiraling jogs and occasionally dashing in with a 1-2 sortie.

They appear to be using open scoring, although no titles sanctioned by the WBC are on the line AFAIK.

It sounds like two scores were 39-37 for Rodríguez Salcedo.

 

Round 5

Rodríguez Salcedo is jabbing his way in, stepping up to Maravillita, trading hooks with him. Maravillita connects on a particularly solid one, best shot of the round so far, planting his feet and propelling himself upward to give himself extra torque landing on the long edge of Rodríguez Salcedo's jaw from below. After that it continues to be a rout by Rodríguez Salcedo, driving Maravillita into the corner with jabbing and hooking flurries, all while simply drawing up to his full height when needed to evade Maravillita's short offensive bursts, or putting up a high guard to absorb them against the ropes.

Round 6

Rodríguez Salcedo is putting his face down to nearly waist level, flailing away on Maravillita's body. Curveball rights up top by Rodríguez Salcedo, skidding off the side of Maravillia's skull. Counter overhand rights by Maravillia, only making partial contact as well. Both are landing their best stuff on the body as this becomes more a showcase of infighting...as well as quite a Petri dish for head clashes. A couple of nasty, but incidental ones. Rodríguez Salcedo really pressing the action, but Maravillia punching with him almost shot for shot, only really suffering for his physical disadvantages, as Rodríguez Salcedo's work isn't much prettier or cleaner.

Rodríguez Salcedo is still dancing in close to Maravillita, bodying up to his outer left flank, then ducking as Maravillia spins and unloads on him, then rising from a crouch with sloppy combinations of jabs, looping rights and hooks while stepping wide around him. Maravillia starting to get his timing down and nail Rodríguez Salcedo with counter overhand rights and left hooks, and prod him in the sternum with jabs. Counter uppercuts by Rodríguez Salcedo are splashing diffusely against the body. They get in a hooking flurry and both their gum shields come loose, but Maravillita's falls out. The ref, in a baffling move, takes a point from Maravillita for something that didn't seem the least bit intentional (as the rest period actually benefited Rodríguez Salcedo, as Maravillita was the one gaining momentum and getting the best of the action) - but, uh, whatever.
