He was a monster in his day. In 2006 he was all but crowned the new UFC heavyweight champion before he ever stepped inside the Octagon.

Has he declined so badly or did his opponents in PRIDE make him look better than he actually is?
maybe he couldnt adjust to the different rule set.

Look at his legs in some of those highlights as compared to now. They're twice the size they used to be.

Dana White said once that Pride ruined many of their fighters by having them fight too much. I am inclined to agree with him - otherwise I don't have an explanation for the way the bulk of the Pride fighters were dispatched upon entering the UFC.

Well guys like Rampage and Silva werent the studs they are now back in PRIDE. Nog's best days were already behind him. The only fighters that have failed were CC and Soko ( who was overrated badly because of his two wins over Lil Nog and Arona ).

CC is bigger now than he was in PRIDE. The Japanese used to have a nickname for his legs because they were so big.

cool highlights. From a tkd standpoint his roundhouse technique is actually pretty solid. See how he rotates the kick over so that at the point it hits the head his foot is usually completely parallel with the floor? that is ideal.

Also, this video has something very interesting in it. Most all the people that he KO'd had their guard up at head level. The kick either went around it, or straight through it knocking the hands aside. I very often see people in videos like this getting knocked out through their arms. The leg is massive and powerful.

This is why movement > guard. In TKD fights we evade. Many people criticize us for having our hands relaxed, but it is a more complicated thing than most would think. In early TKD days (1960's-70'early 80's) most competitors kept their hands up high to block. It proved very ineffective and fighting with hands at the side for improved evasion developed over the years of competition.

Granted, any high level fighter would throw and arm up in the way if it was unavoidable, but evasion is the primary method for not getting kicked.
