I agree partly with this. Crocop has always been this type of fighter, low volume, patient counterpuncher. IMHO he was always overrated, just like K1 is a bit overrated. Now before I get bashed tell me, if you put old George Foreman in the cage purely striking match like this one what would happen? As much as I love JDS( the guy moves like a cat at 6'4 240), he would get KTFO. Fedor outstruck Crocop in his prime at certain point of their match, thats fact. As you pointed out, you present Crocop with an opponent that has that mere 10% chance of taking it to the ground, his mentality completely changes, even though guys like JDS probably doesnt intend to take him down at all. Another thing is he hasnt evolved, its funny that I see threads that crocop would kill Silva or Machida. Some strikers have gotten left behind, just like Royce BJJ is brown belt level now relatively speaking. I doubt that very much, he cant even hang with sloppy Gonzaga, mentally weak Kongo and unbridled JDS of the worlds let alone serious strikers. I'm talking aboiuyt even prime Crocop against Anderson.
I'll go against the curve and use this opportunity to praise Dos Santos. There's still room for improvement and he needs to fight someone who will not relent to his pressure, but he's done a fine job gradually working up the ladder to this point. A good find by the UFC.
Dos Santos looks like a power house boxer hunting down his opponent. He throws knees and kicks but he seems to love his hands. He says as much often. I enjoyed his fearless approach. Cro can be devastating yet he was the aggressor, confident in his chin and his power to close the show.
I wasnt impressed by JDS. Kongo would beat him if JDS keep it standing, since we know, that any potent BJJ guy, would sub Kongo
Dos Santos is winning with his hands, so much so, that he's fallen in love with them. When he gets matched with a higher breed of opponent, he'll either adapt or succeed/fail with his hands. What I'm saying, is that until someone forces him to do otherwise, he's gonna stay with what's gotten him to the dance.
I thought it was a great fight. Dos Santos is just a monster. His head is freaking huge! Crocop should have thrown more head kicks and low leg kicks to keep Dos Santos at bay. I thought Crocop gave a good showing - he hurt Dos Santos with that straight left several times. Dos Santos was just younger, stronger, and more resilient.
JDS deserves praise, the guy is raw but name me someone that size with such quick hands. If he can develop a more all around game including kicks. Hed be near unstoppable. Remember that Machida says that JDS is a hard spar partner because he cannot cope with the speed.
You mean the best big man BJJ player in MMA like Werdum??? Kongo would get eaten alive with an onslaught like that... You talking about Kongo? the black version of Gonzaga? JDS respects Crocop for his past accomplishments and he has that lethal LHK weapon. Kongo will not get respect and will be bumrushed. Dos Santos a big dude, rewatch the fight and show me a big guy with handspeed like that.
I want to see JDS take down defence. He's big, strong, powerful but can he keep it standing. I also want to see if he does have a ground game. I've only seen clips and Cro Cop.
I like Dos Santos alot. At first I thought he'd be another "flash in the pan" like Kongo. He's big, fast...underrated power...accurate and has good cardio. Incorporates the muay thai in his aggressive attack and isn't the least bit hesitant. The only question imo is his groundgame.
