Here's a challenge for our knowledgable classic forum posters.

From Minimumweight to Heavyweight, fill in as many of the weight classes as you can with a fighter most like the original fighter mentioned. They don't have to be carbon copies, just the best fit.

Here's one to start us off.

First boxers up is Joe Louis. I'll fill in a few of the blanks with fighters I've seen mentioned as similar to Louis in other weight classes.

    Joe Louis -

    Heavyweight -
    Cruiserweight -
    Light Heavyweight -
    Super Middleweight -
    Middleweight -
    Junior Middleweight -
    Welterweight -
    Junior Welterweight -
    Lightweight - Ike Williams

    Super Featherweight - Alexis Arguello
    Featherweight -
    Super Bantamweight -
    Bantamweight -
    Super Flyweight -
    Flyweight -
    Light Flyweight -
    Minimum Weight - Ricardo Lopez

    Heavyweight -
    Cruiserweight -
    Light Heavyweight -
    Super Middleweight -
    Middleweight -
    Junior Middleweight -
    Welterweight - Felix Trinidad
    Junior Welterweight - Kostya Tszyu
    Lightweight - Ike Williams

    Super Featherweight - Alexis Arguello
    Featherweight -
    Super Bantamweight -
    Bantamweight -
    Super Flyweight -
    Flyweight -
    Light Flyweight -
    Minimum Weight - Ricardo Lopez

I added Trinidad and Tszyu, who both have differences to Louis, but i did it on the basis of Trinidad being a ko artist, and Tszyu being a technically sound hitter who timed his best shots. Trinidad doesn't have the footwork i know, and Tszyu doesn't have his full offensive arsenal, but i couldn't think of others, if anyone wants to alter it feel free.

Also, i'd like to ask people who know more of Vincente Saldivar at 126, does he fit stylistically here?

Tszyu is a great call, there all good calls except Trinidad i disagree with him for the reasons you state yourself no footwork etc...

i cant think of any more

i think trinidad was a good solid pick due to his short range punching power ...him and louis had to hit you from about a foot away from your face and you'd be knocked into oblivion ...

and both relied on getting up off the canvas several times to win big ...

a few similarities to think about!!

i see several simularities in the two .. morales and arguello ...both had that lazor accurate right hand... both got better the longer the fight went .. both had explosiveness matched with text book shots. .. both were very up right fighters they fought tall as you've heard people say .. not much of a crotch down style for either of them...

you could make a case for terry norris being alike joe louis ... he too had the fluid punching of louis ...also had to get up several times to win... speed speed speed
    and foot work

There simply isn't a Joe Louis at every weight class, he's P4P above everyone in this thread on achievement and talent. Corrales isn't a bad comparision stylistically, both him and Arguello don't have near Louis's handspeed, stealth and aren't in Louis's league

Tyszu isn't a good match because of his poor defense, flat footedness and because he was so right hand happy, Morales isn't either because he hasn't got much pop and doesn't have the same authority, I prefer a 122lb MAB or Gomez to Morales if your looking for Louis comparision both far better technical stalkers with more precise devastating punching ability

    How about Jack Blackburn ;)

Louis is not P4P above everyone mentioned i think Arguello is alot better P4P and Ike Williams could easily be ranked above Louis

Corrales is a bad stylistic comparison he is a swarmer more tahn anything throws lots of punches and gets hit with alot of punches and dosent have the smae kind of ring general ship or style. Louis would often patiently stalk fighters using a good jab coming in with short hard sharp punches. Corrales is more a brawler and comes straight in wining crude shots in the inside.

Did you notice the 3 critisims of Tsyu you made were 3 critisisms alot of Louis critics mention about Louis

Well i certainly think that there was not a Louis clone in every division, but Tszyu is a better matchup than Corrales for me.

Purely stylistically as in what they set out to do maybe Corrales isnt a great deal far off, but as far as their effectiveness went there's no comparison.

I find it hard to believe that Tszyu's defence got brought up and Corrales got mentioned as a Louis match

i know but what is more ironic is the 3 points against Tszyu were 3 critisisms of louis

I'd say Carlos Ortiz was more like Joe Louis than Ike Williams, mannerism wise.

In a way Ortiz maybe, this isn't meant to sound disrespectful, but in some senses he did thinks too well to be compared imo. I mean the footwork that enabled in and out potshotting, but maybe that's unfair as Louis didn't attempt to incorporate that into his style
