Mccloskey never used to stop the journeymen types he faced in his early career, who just tried cover up. He started stopping people when he moved up to title level. He's a pretty sharp accurate puncher when he wants to be.
After only seeing ishidas destruction of kirkland you would never be able to guess his ko percentage, im sure flea and kos can go deeper in depth with him.
I was only half-joking when I mentioned him, because I started calling him the Japanese Julian Jackson in disguise in jest before :yep But his stoppage of Kirkland does make you wonder. I mean a 35 year old who had very few stoppages on the domestic scene (and the light middle division in Japan is generally quite weak) suddenly destroys a world ranked fighter who had in the past took everything a knockout artist in Joel Julio threw at him :nut
That's similar to what Jamie Moore was saying last night about records and early on in careers fighters going in with journeymen who can take care of themselves and make sure that when they do throw punches that they're able to block or smother counters.
I honestly never seen your earlier post but i was wondering where that performance came from and obviously the higher weights are not the premier weights in asia so i would have assumed that his early days would have been littered with cans(not looked at his record so dont know if thats true)
Fought for an OPBF title in his 6th fight and mixed at practically that level his whole career, so he hasn't fought many soft touches. 2 stoppages in 12 title fights should show you how much power he has, but he threw that record out the window when he fought Kirkland. Really is a strange one.
