Been out to the pub. Didn't Sky+ tonight as I expected to be home in time.

What the **** happened? I'd like replies from decent, respectable posters only please.

(TFTFP, Thomas, you can be considered one of them)

I had it 4 rounds to McD, he pushed the fight, got inside Furys jab and landed the heavier shots in most of the rounds.

The ref had it for Fury by 6 rounds which is nothing short of bizarre.

Firstly, it was a good fight, well worth getting old of.

Basically, Tyson didn't manage to keep the fight at range. He showed his jab all too infrequently, and when he did it was nice. However, his footwork didn't keep McDermott off him, and his power punches and no impact on McDermott as expected. McDermott came forward, slipped punches well, caught him with a lot of right hands, and short punches on the inside. Fury's replies tended to be arm punches, flurries, not really accurate. Fury showed a good chin to his credit, but McDermott was connecting at 40% which is ridiculous.

McDermott won by a couple of rounds but got a 98-92 decision, only O'Connor knows how.

i had it 6-4 to mcdermott as do most people.
O'connor gave it to fury by 98-92.
No way he won the fight. He got a huge gift.
    Excellent fight though

OK so the result is partly irrelevent. Can Fury learn to take this game seriously and use his attributes from now on?

Everyone who's anyone in boxing must surely know that Fury's been coasting since he turned pro. He could be amazing. But is tonight the night he learned to apply himself in the future or is he destined to be another might have been?

I think this will help Fury a lot.

Going from four rounds to ten in a single leap will teach him a great lesson - I'd say in hindsight it was a fight too early.

95-95 on my card with no commentary, you could easily have it a shutout to McDermott listening to Jim Watt.

Well, the most worrying two aspects were...

    1) His defence was awful. The stats say McDermott landed at 40%. He got tagged by right hands frequently, real flush shots. This was the first time an opponent had a live offence and he was in all kinds of trouble.

    2) His power didn't seem to ever bother McDermott at all.

Aside from that, he obviously didn't implement the gameplan he should which was to keep it long. Either that or he was incapable.

Not a good combination for a heavy, is it?

it was a cracking good fight..only spoiler was the very wrong scoreline...
fury showed that yes, he deserved to be in a ring with mcdermott...but he did not win 98-92 though..
    it was a great fight....

jim watt called a great fight tonight...i havent always been a fan of his commentry, but he called that fight really well tonight.

tom dallas looks good on undercard.

his power did bother mcdermott in the last {or was it second last?} round...mcdermott stiffened a lot and stumbled, and ref split them for a few seconds.

On the plus side Fury showed he has a decent chin.

All the talk of world class before the fight sounds even more ridiculous than it did at the time (and thats saying something).

This i can't agree with. He was hanging off mcdermotts nuts for dear life. As per usual he can't be objective.
