In his book "Welcome to the big time" Earnie Shavers writes: "My last fight that year (1969) was a four-round decision win against Bill Wilson on december 27th.

With that, I had gone a total of 20 rounds in eight fights in seven weeks. (His math is wrong as he had only fought 19 rounds inclusive the Wilson fight.)

The Wilson fight is not on Earnies Boxrec record or even in his own book.

Unlicenced fight? - Anyone knows anything?

According to BOXREC, there were no fights scheduled in the United States on Dec. 27, 1969. Also, according to them, there was a light heavyweight from North Carolina named Bill Wilson who turned pro in 1970. And, Shavers' record shows he never fought anyone with the last name Wilson.

But it seems like a pretty random thing for him to say if it never occurred (he didn't even tout it as a knockout win).

So my guess is it did take place. But it wasn't a sanctioned fight card. Maybe it was a benefit or exhibition in Ohio, since it was around the holiday season.
